Lol. Even if he never returns to his former level, someone like Asgreen would be far more valuable for the team than Hirschi.

You're talking about a team full of people who get horny seeing UCI points. If you look at points scoring capability Asgreen is definitely not more valuable. I hope they change that approach asap tho, they almost have double the points Visma has right now.

He should go to Tudor tho. They have money, they get a lot of WCs already and with him they probably would be top 2 on the PCT ranking every year anyways (his task of scoring as much points as he can would be the same anyways). I know a few teams who are praying he stays at UAE and doesnt go to Tudor tho.

In the most important races they lack riders with Asgreen’s qualities more than what Hirschi offers.
I dont think they are really lacking squad-wise. In terms of numbers.

Laengen, Novak, Olivera (x2), Politt, Bjerg, Vink, Bax, Wellens.... could probably all be classed in the same category and do jobs as rouleurs or perform domestic duties if needed. Then you have other guys like Hodeg, Molano, Baroncini, Fisher-Black, Covi and so on.

Asgreen would add and be an improvement on that part of the team, maybe letting someone else go, but that should not really be seen as a direct replacement for someone like Hirsci and what he brings.

More than likely guys like Morgado and others riders they sign/develop could replace Hirschis results from one-day races. They want to be the best team and results/ranking is important.

Wouldnt be smart to sign Asgreen in that regard, but for other reasons to improve the squad.

FDJ are also apparently going to lose Pithie to Bora as well, so things are not looking good for FDJ.
Things are fine, this is just the fate for a team that cannot splash cash left, right and center. Riders come, riders go. Now they'll go on and invest in others, like Thibaud Gruel, Noah Hobbs, Eliott Boulet and Karl Sagnier. If they, in a few years time, have their breakthrough, they are likely to leave as well and the whole thing repeats. Such is the cycle of sports.

I think GFDJ should focus on fewer goals and start to rack up points as Israel and Lotto. you have all the French 1 day races and all the short week stage races like Dunkerque, Provence, Var-Maritimes, Ain, Mayenne, Besseges, Loire, etc etc.
ok you go for WT like Paris-Nice, Roubaix, Flanders, TDF etc. but aside from those, thereìs all the French races vital for your French sponsors.

I don't think it's a fine evolution in your sport when most teams just become devo teams for a handful of superteams. What is the point in financing a whole development program just to see every youngster leave whenever they start performing and thus start getting publicity for the sponsors. Why would sponsors keep spending money on that, there's no benefit for them. Obviously we're not completely there yet but it is going in that direction.

Why would FDJ, who are in 8th on the 2023-2025 UCI ranking start riding for points in smaller races? Groupama isn't sponsoring that team to see them win in the Coupe de France.

It's not a good evolution, but it is, however, the situation we are currently in. Unless Groupama and/or FDJ wish to insert more money or Madiot can find someone else who wishes to do so, it will remain reality.

not JUST Coupe de France. I follow many French twitter people. it's onvious that WT races are important and crucial. but I notice even the most interested French fans have no interest is many of the WT races. so I'd ay better win Dunkerque and Tro-Bro-Leon than a stage in Romandie or Pologne.
also, if FDJ keeps losing riders, then racking up points will be important. Gaudu does not get enough points while he gets a good slice of the budget.
the focus at FDJ should change in nurtuting the young French guys NOT LETTING them leave. so having budget for them, instead of going for that 7th GC place at the TDF every year
