One thing to mention if the "plan" (which might be journalistic license stretching his words there) to have Anna & Demi working together, why didn't they work harder to keep Demi then ?

Also whilst it's more race talk than signing talk, though it might apply to the getting a rider able to ride uphill quickly later in this Giro. Why was Fisher-Black their GC rider, when clearly Kopecky (so far) is much the stronger rider?

Answers on a postcard to SDworx ;)

I assume Janssen was somewhat bluffing, but it's also possible that they weren't fully sure if Kopecky would be able to stay with the best on Blockhaus. Benson's latest story is that NFB is off to Trek, which makes sense for them, but she definitely won't be undisputed leader there either.

No matter which level Van der Breggen can return to, she won't be able to make up for the losses of Vollering, NFB, Majerus and Shackley, plus likely also Reusser (hopefully she will be able to make a comeback before the end of the season), on her own either, so it'll be interesting to see which kind of riders SDW have money left to invest in. Bredewold is looking a more and more like a new Reusser though, so they won't necessarily have to look for a direct replacement (not that there are many of them around).

NFB to Trek makes for me not really sense, because than you have two riders of the same caliber (Realini and NFB). Plus Riejanne Markus is rumored to join Trek.

There aren't that many riders available that could close the Longo Borghini sized hole all alone. Vollering wasn't an option due to salary demands and/or the Specialized connection, and Niewiadoma has decided to stay at CSR. Having multiple strong riders is not a bad strategy.

theres potentially a Lizzie D size hole to fill too, she hasnt announced yet what she's doing for next year yet,

and with more races on the calendar, TdFF expanding, it doesnt hurt to have more capable riders in the team so you can rotate them, whether Trek is the right place for her I dont know.

but it feels like NFB has suitors at least for her signature, the way SDWorx sort of stepped up the praise and role for her at the Giro, as almost a look what youll be missing if you join another team kind of thing.

Losing both Lizzie and Elisa at the same time will/would of course have an effect both on and off the bike. If Van Dijk then retires, there will be no one left from the team's original line up. However since they did swoop up all those top juniors, the future doesn't look too grim either. And they obviously also have Van Anrooij whose ceiling is still unknown.

Regarding NFB, it's definitely possible they were trying to convince her to stay. The Giro stage win should help her get a bigger contract no matter where she ends up.

I agree 100%. NFB had to move to realise her potential but Lidl would be about the last team i would choose. You are better to back yourselves and go to mid level teams like DSM, Visma, Movistar, Liv Alula etc and be prepared to be a big leader.

In what way was SDWorx good for NFB. I've posted for 12 months that I was sick of her leading the peleton on flat parcours trying to bring back the break. Even NFB riding on the front in stage eight cost her three spots in the GC which of course was a result of SDWorx choosing an unsuitable team. I have seen too may cases of riders making poor career choices. I hope this is not the case for NFB. Finally, I have no idea why Wiebes did not ride the Giro as she would have won two stages and could have made the final of a third, and she could have ridden on the front for parts of hilly stages. choices.

well she joined them at a time when they were the best team to be with, just as Bigla collapsed. I dont think SDWorx were the worst place to have made that step up to world tour level for a few years, whether its the right place now is a different question and I dont know the answer to that.

Id presume SDWorx have been trying to mould her into that super domestique role by how they sit her out there like that, that Marjerus or van den Broek Blaak do for them, who are both retiring and leaving an obvious big hole in their team and the way they go about their racing.

She's arguably better than that role, but how do you fit her aspirations against the teams? who have clearly gone all in on Wiebes/Kopecky as their preferred favoured riders for race wins for the next 4 years.

Ideally I think they'd see NFB as someone who could ultimately be the team lead in the future and provide the continuity for them and in the meantime sit in and develop more as a rider and opportunities like the Giro will be given to her.

Why Wiebes wasn't at the Giro, well she's spent the past 3 weeks in a hypoxic room & the gym prepping for the Olympics apparently

Think of Merlier and Kooij. Merlier has ridden one TDF was allowed to sprint once and won. Kooij is in his fifth year as a pro and has ridden half of one GT. There were better options for NFB in which she would be the undisputed leader, and be given the chance to unleash her potential for better or worse.

My reference to Wiebes was in relation to one poster suggesting Kopecky lacked support in the Giro. I am unsure about the benefits of altitude for sprinters, anyway, she will be at the Baloise Ladies Tour starting tomorrow.
