To be honest, by now I'm also completely lost at what point it actually is you're trying to make:
Well, everybody wants more money. And last spring they actually offered him a new contract with higher pay. He signed it. He got more money. Now he wants to break it. If this happens it has consequences for the sport as a whole so of course people will take this into a broader context. That's not putting words in your mouth.
Like I said before: when signing a contract, both parties take a risk. The rider can either under- or overperform. In the first case, he's lucky and it's tough luck for the team. If he overperforms, it's the other way around. Seems totally fair to me. A contract should mean something.
That is just one getting ahead of themselves. Like everyone will be able to do it... no.
Van Gils has performed to level where he has more options and suitors. It just smart to try renegotiate his current terms. Especially if they are really low and not matching his current level. What he could offer on the road. Not being happy anymore with current situation in the team and his terms.
Again, things change! He is in a much better place to negotiate. He has more leverage. Why not capitalize? Why not try?
That this is horrible for the sport and teams? What? They been kicking riders and people to the side for years. It is laughable to get on that side or think the whole sport will be ruined.
This is just standard business and asking to be paid what he is worth now. At least trying for it. Whats the harm in that? We should feel sorry for the team? Nah.
And if he has fallen out with the team, then they will have to manage the situation or come to some agreement to part ways if they cant continue with each other. It happens all the time. Not just in sport, but everywhere.
These things just happen in business... and in life, contract or not. Especially with people involved. It is feelings and emotions.
Dont understand what is so hard to grasp.
Thinking this ruining sport is just funny though.
