Why not? It's not like they have someone who would have clear priority over him.
Buchmann would probably have priority over him. Definitely since he is a German rider. But with Ineos and Jumbo becoming such powerhouses, it probably isn't a bad idea to also start with 2 GC-riders.

The expectation within Mitchelton Scott was one of the Yates would leave because of budgetary constraints and because they wanted to push on with other riders in the team - As it stands now they could lose Yates x 2 and Haig in the worst case scenario - Fact is Simon was offered over 3m by Trek last time and stayed at MS for just under 2 million -

He'll sell his soul to Ineos. Ideal man for the train.

eh? :tearsofjoy: any comment on Oomen selling his soul to the Jumbo train? or Elissonde to the Nibali Trek train (he worked hard in Paris-Nice, same as he did at Sky)

In that case I suppose he would focus on Giro and Vuelta in the future? He could then have good support for the Vuelta, just taking the helpers from the Tour over. If he wanted to be leader at the Tour that would not make any sense.
Will Astana survive?
Why?
Bora does not have the best GC contenders in their team.

Well, so far it appeared to me they are committing fully to Buchmann and a German/Austrian approach. Whether Buchmann can fulfill their desires we will see. If not, they might put MAL in his place after all.
Or they actually go for a two-leaders strategy. But I fear for MAL, since I kind of like him, that in that case he could become the "less desirable" option, simply because he's not German. I would not wish that on him.
(Personally I would never go for two leaders, maybe that's why I don't see it as probable, but yeah, teams like Bora never ask me...)

So it happened.
Froome will move to Israel Start-up Nation from 2021.

If he's back to his former self we might be in for a great Tour.

So the question is, what will Ineos now do on the transfer market.
They still have three top GC contenders in their team for next season with Bernal, Thomas and Carapaz, who are all capable of winning a Grand tour.
Then they have talents with potential like Sivakov and Dunbar.
Will they try to get another top GC contender with the free budget? Adam Yates? Perhaps both brothers?
Or are they using the free budget to invest in domestiques or other types of riders. (Cobble specialists, Ardennes specialists, sprinters,..)

I'd rate Tao over Dunbar.

Maybe Haig instead of Adam Yates?
That might leave some budget to get Greg Van Avermaet and Jungels (to replace Kwiatkowksi).

Why are they giving him a 5 year contract? He has yet to prove he's recovered.

Haig is guaranteed a leadership position at a GC if he stays at Mitchelton Scott - He's already been team leader at his two stage races in 2020 and was originally to be the leader at the Vuelta.

Power files have possibly been passed between the two parties to prove he's back to form, or perhaps it's a case of saying "Look! We can afford to splash the cash on a 7 times grand tour winner" and maybe if Fromme hasnt recovered yet , then they are banking him having time to do so and we've seen someone like Valverde performing well so fsr in the latter years of his career.

I don't think Froome has recovered fully and I find it unlikely he fully will recover. Also Valverde's injury was something many, many cyclists have recovered from to their previous level. Using Valverde as to what to expect from other older riders isn't a good idea. Froome like the vast majority of riders has to peak and is fairly off when when peaking. Valverde has a consistancy high level.
Now if they are looking for a mentor and someone to bring PR to the team, Froome will definitely do that. Until Froome is racing again no one knows what he level actually is.
Until he's racing again he can't prove he's recovered. He didn't show anything at UAE Tour.

To me it seems like the teams owner has too much money, wanted Froome, and Froome feels pretty okay signing a contract for FU money.

At 35, Froome's career is coming to an end even if he's fully recovered so who can blame him.

Latour at TDE could be a lot of fun at the TDF
