The cost of a neo contract is a pretty cheap investment for some teams to develop a rider under their control. Maybe neo WT contracts should require a certain amount of race days per year to make the teams step back and think for a second.

It's fair to be fearful of how having this kind of expectation levied on ever more precocious talent will affect them, both as athletes and in life. Probably also sharpens some of them too.

And then the less/not reported on at all likes of Niels Michotte who won the 2022 junior Paris-Roubaix and was contracted for Axeon for 2023-> and quietly retired at the end of 2022. No word on whether injury, mental issues or loss of love for the sport was the reason, but either way a case in point for both hyping and having riders skip U23.

Frankly, I wouldn't touch any American talents that raced for Axeon, they all peak early and and finished at 25. It's not a coincidence that both McNulty and Kuss rode for Rally...

You think if he was going elsewhere they would've likely announced, although Jumbo-Visma have a spot open with Van Hooydonck's retirement so perhaps they will try and swoop in.

Canyon need to be all over Philipsen; he wants to continue mixing disciplines - and they have a team which has UCI registered teams in 3 disciplines......and a Devo team.

In all honesty, Alpecin, and to a lesser extent, Ineos are the only teams fully committed to multi discipline riders.

Now I hope that Bora‘s Wandahl also will have a good solution. His contract ends end of 2023. He recently finished a nice 8th at GP Plouay, WT level. I think he‘ll try to have a good Lombardia…

Makes some sense IMO because their other talent is still developing. If their plan is to dominate with a strong team like old Sky or JV then they need that core of riders to be well-oiled by the time the next big thing is ready to rock n roll. (Just think of how much better off Remco's GC challenges would have been if Pat had figured that out ahead of time.)
