Another day done. Keeping fingers crossed that he can maintain this level. I think he needs to forget about a stage win now with top 5 in his grasp. He'd need a lot to go his way to land on the podium and Lipo looks a stronger bet for that just now I think, but, who knows.

Days of hyping up British riders to the moon and back is long over? It's been awhile since he first showed how good he was at his age and we only had two pages. Kid is no joke and everyone keeps downplaying his potentials. Maybe it's the aliens, or maybe it's his team. But then even galacticos boy Brennan was barely talked about more than Ethan Hayter in his first year.
Has that really been a thing? My interest in cycling had a bit of a drop-off during all the Covid cancellations, so I might have missed some Hayter hype around 2020/2021. But I can't really recall a lot of over-hyped Brits. Cav, Wiggins, Froome and Thomas were worth the hype. Pidcock might be the only one who has been slightly overhyped in my eyes, but mostly among the 'normies' and not us nerds. Don't think the Yates brothers have been unduly hyped, and they have also been very successful. Any particular examples?

I feel like American riders have had more unjustified hype in the recent couple of decades, with people seeing the 'new Armstrong' everywhere.

And if the general hype around Brits seems to have dropped off compared to the days of Millar etc. it might be because British cycling success has become more the norm these days. It's somewhat the same in Norway, where the hype around Hushovd, EBH and even Arvesen was insane in the 00s and early 10s. Nowadays hardly anyone who are not cycling fans know much about Abrahamsen, THJ, Foss. Especially Foss, world champion and all, is surprisingly unknown. Even Kristoff isn't as universally recognized as the 00s stars, but that could also be partly due to his not-as-charismatic personality.

I see there was a roadside supporter waving an Onley Fans board today.
Another fine result for Oscar. Looked like he suffered a bit today though.
He went really deep and did a really great recovery after losing contact.. He chased really hard and kept time loss to a minimum. He keeps making the selection with the best, riding like he belongs..

He is fourth in the Tour with four stages to go.

Quite a surreal performance, I have to say. Where did this come from? I know he showed a good climbing level in the Tour de Suisse last year (and this year too) but I think this is altogether completely next level.

But it's quite funny how the best five climbers from Dauphiné and the four best climbers from Suisse together with Roglic absolutely were the ten best climbers in the Tour (apart from what happened to Remco and Almeida). I don't think the preparation races have ever been more on the nose than what has been the case this year.

we definitely need more Onley puns

Onley was great at Tour de Suisse, almost going neck and neck with João Almeida on the climbs. That signaled that he was on a special form.
Great riding!
