I just want to know who looked at the profile of the UAE tour and with this new climb thought they should bring Remco here when he could be in Portugal that also has a TT even more suited to him and an easier race closer to home.
Instead humiliation in the desert and UAE licking their chops for the next time they see him
UAE is a WT race, and I wouldn't be surprised if Evenepoel gets an appearance fee for starting there.

It's a better barometer for 20 minute climbs than Algarve, that's for sure.

I think it's better to face reality and not spend months thinking diffeent until Catalunya against Vingegaard and realize it then.

UAE's rival for the Tour is Vingegaard. That wouldn't have changed if Remco had won today.

Vingegaard is far superior in mountain to all the riders in UAE Tour; what happens here without Vingegaard doesn't affect them.

Route and profile was announced very late, and in Belgian media it was said they paid him to start

I was afraid Remco might get a bit hasty today but i don't feel that was the reason for this setback. In the position he was it made sense to follow the attack. The legs where not there today and no shame in that. As for RBH as a whole, not all that supportive. So both Remco and team as a whole have some room for improvement on such terrain. Rogla often suffered because of lack of better support too.

Anyway, if the legs will allow for it then Remco should attack tomorrow.

Of course UAE promoters gave Remco and RBH starting money. It would look like a club ride without them there. Remco won the stage he's suited to win. Whining about his loss misses the very real point that this is year One with a new team and a transformation to GT contender will take time.

It should be Remco vs Jonas, but it didn't happen.

I am not sure about that…it was just so steep that it was simply man vs man. It was Not Mountain where 2 domestiques make a difference

It was way after that on where Yates made a difference for del Toro. And besides this is just how it is ATM at RBH. GC leaders are more or less left alone on ultimate climbs, that is at beginning. Leaders are hence more of a DIY handyman's. A lot of energy wasted before it even starts. If for example a teammate would close the gap, instead of Remco, then who knows what the outcome would be today.

I dunno about being left alone as a rule. Roglic seemed very present with Lipo at the Tour. Going early can get you some pacing room but many of those combatants did a very hot TdU and were more race fit for this type of stage. Once the pace gets to be too much and half the field is passing you...you"re not fit enough to respond. Teammates can only do so much when it gets steeper still: hand you a bottle and "see you at the bus" as a farewell.

It still wouldn't have been between those two. He needs to be real and plan his training to suit future reality; if that can happen.
Watching that climb it looks like the early season points pressure has a few dudes hitting season peaks. Remco, Jonas, Primoz all don't need to seriously contest this race. DelToro is there so Tadej needn't mess with it.
