Can you then explain his 2022 and 2023? Did he win Liege without being in or near peak shape twice? Or was it the late summer / autumn big wins that were done without peaking?
Yeah people who don't really follow the rider closely are writing a lot of bs about him...he's whashed up as a gc rider... he can only peak once...
He didn't planned a (real) peak in spring because he wanted to be as fresh as possible in the summer, he didn't go to altitude for that reason. He already said that in January.
He won’t be a factor the rest of this season. He’s better off relaxing and focusing on a big goal next year

Double Olympic Champion in dominant fashion, just incredible!
While I realise the Olympics aren't the most important thing in cycling, the Olympics actually are much bigger than cycling and this achievement makes him the greatest Belgian male Olympic athlete in history I think.
Only the European RR is left now to complete the collection of all possible Championship Titles. While at this point in his career a European title might not exactly be a major target, I still hope he goes for it at least once to try and complete the set.
He was obviously never lacking in the confidence department but I feel like he gained an extra level of confidence with his TDF podium. He told his teammates after the recon exactly where he would attack during the race and he thought about his victory salute before the race when he saw the backdrop at the finish line. The only thing he didn't anticipate was bringing his TT gold medal with him for the picture sessions but luckily there was Oumi who took care of that.

You were pushing the same theory this winter when VdP was winning crosses left and right, saying he would not have achieved anything in the classics.
I ate my hat then. But mvp is a 5 month plateau rider with one or two peaks. He has not been impressive since April
Yes, your last sentence was exactly what I was thinking about. Almost every Worlds parcours really makes sense for Remco to target, and he will be doing the Tour for a while now. Even freaking Copenhagen he could win.
I guess my point is that on 90% of the routes Remco will have a decent shot to a very, very good chance of winning in top shappe.
Why do you guys do this to yourself? He's resurrected his legend with a podium in the tour and Olympics. You go and knock down his legend expecting such things.
Just because you peak doesn’t automatically mean you will win. No one is saying he’ll win by default.
This is how he is: a real championship rider. He wants to defend his WC ITT title. Both the ITT route and RR route suits him very well. After a short break he will go on altitude camp, followed by brittain or renewi tour and ecc itt.

Unless you've seen metrics that prove otherwise, I'd say he's a lot closer to the truth than you might realize.
I think I realize the situation pretty well. There's not zero value in it. I also get his point, I just don't care right now.
I simply think he should have kept all of that to himself, at least for another week or two. The class response if he was specifically asked about the financial ramifications (and I have no idea if he was or not, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt), would have been to say, "Let's just enjoy two great wins for Belgium right now, we can talk about money later". But he had to make it about himself, several times.
Egocentric and classless...but mostly...unnecessary.
