He had everyone struggling to hold his wheel on Côte des Forges and made up probably 40-50 positions on La Redoute. Unless he got cramps, I refuse to believe he had to drop on Roche-aux-Faucons.

That's why I am thinking this was mental on his part. He flies up the previous climb then drops? wtf?

Also, how he was riding in the chase group. He went back to imitating Koko B. Ware and just stopped riding at one point

Unless he had some problems with something he ate, that is pretty bad behaviour. I understand his frustrasion because of the bad positioning, but he still could have finished second, he looked strong after Redoute.

That would mean he stopped and the team asked him to continue. Remco is not the type of rider that changes his mind that quickly. Maybe he had a technical issue?

That could explain why he was behind the group after the descent, maybe he was on Vansevenant bike. I didn't even think of that

Maybe his comeback from injury should have been a slow build up, instead of starting his racing with the intention of going for the win, against riders in form, especially Pog. It looks like it was a straight into the deep end, instead of starting in the shallows, and it's backfired. A little like the Giro a few years back.

I'm not gonna draw conclusion without knowing more.
I'm however very curious what this means for Romandie. As it was the 2nd item on my bingo card for Remco this year.

It's normal, you can't improvise in Liege, especially against Tadei. Hopes were not warranted, but now phase 2 begins.

Don't really think a guy like that knows how to race without going for the win. I mean...except for today. He nailed it today. :D

I think this increases the chances for Almeida in TdR if he’s still in shape. Hopefully Evenepoel can get everything straight and have a good Tour.

This is the thing with Remco and which in some sense makes it interesting to follow him. He is a bit up and down, humanlike in an era with aliens. He has some success, gets cocky and fans and media get hybris, and then there is a setback and we get our doubts about him.

He will fight back, as usual. :)
