Would love to see his power output though... he is the only one going over 58km/h on T1 and T2. (close to 59)

on T1 he was going almost 1,2km/h faster than Ganna.

To see the difference in power requirement between the riders to get that speed. His cda must give him so much benifit on those extremely fast TT...

it's bizarre how tiny he looked in the stage today, and yet he is destroy guys like Ganna/Kung/Roglic on the flat, before even start the climb. Remco physiology is absolutely ridiculous.

I know also it is a 3 week race, he is far from winning the Giro and TGH was nowhere on Etna in 2020. But it was remarkable also how , in contrast to remco looking like an excitable but powerful grasshopper on his bike, roglic looked considerable laboured and wasteful. The advantage gained from this time trial is literally the maximum possible for remco and his team

Not just physiology, as you allude to, because he looks "tiny" that is because Remco also has perfect aero. Low, flat, small frontal area. Put aero and physiology together and you see what we did today. Scary what might happen in stage 9.

Remco the outlier. I think it is difficult to appreciate how huge his result is but anyone with a background in statistics knows it's insane. He should target the world hour record one day. He may not only surpass 57 km/h. He may hit 58 km/h.
Tailwind noticably picked up in the second half, which affects the result in relation to half the rest of the field. Now most big hitters went in his time slot anyway so that doesn't matter to his closest rivals, but in relation to a guy like Ganna that hill at the end helps him a bit too.

I don't think Ganna is in his best form here, but I do think Evenepoel might be the best flat ITTer in the world right now. That said, Evenepoels best ITTs have all been in the mid length range, and the Vuelta TT was the longest one he's won. Add that to no track experience, and I'm not sure he should be the best for the hour record.

He could break it, but that's because I think Ganna wasn't even in top form when he did 56 + whatever it was. I also don't see Evenepoel being interested in it either.

Perfect TT position. No wonder he is fast. Yet the scatter plot shows he is not only fast but rather extremely fast. A real outlier. Hope he didn’t kill the Giro with this devastating blow.
nah, the giro will be determined by climbing. Everyone knew Remco would take time in those starting ITTs., the question will be how will he fair in the final of the last week. And Almeida and especially Hart have performed above expectations here... so best to take them into account for the climbs as well.

19.6 kms, 171 vertical meters - Evenepoel won with an average speed of 55.211 kms/hr.

That is extremely fast. He benefited from a lack of curves, but still. These are speeds for a TTT normally.

But yet, these were 20 kms, 21 minutes. He beat Roglic clearly. I however think today‘s ITT doesn’t tell too much about chances for this current Giro.

Roglic seems to have had a perfect preparation. He was better than Remco in Catalunya. I think and hope Roglic gains time in the mountains and the two remaining ITTs.

Today was a very specific 21-minutes effort. IMHO that was something like a prologue, just a little bit longer.

And you actually cannot draw too many conclusions from LBL, too - because the first part to Bastogne is quite flat, and Remco‘s opponents were not the very biggest names.

From Bastogne back to Liege, Remco only gained 2:13mins on Velasco who was in the break all day.

And today Remco gained only 40secs on TGH, who doesn‘t time trial well.

Remco now in Pink, but only 19.6 kilometers done…

I think in the mountains someone else could gain Pink…

I can't see how on earth roglic gains time in the next TT. Maybe stage 20 but that's a weird beast. TGH looked the goods here and if that wasn't a good TT then what are you saying about roglic? That he imploded? Didn't look like that to me.

Remco was insane today.
