Great start for sure. Distancing Mas, Vlasov, Valverde and co was impressive.

He has never lost in Spain so he kind of has toSo he's winning the Vuelta this year?
For all we know, Valverde has kids older than Remco. What are you talking about. He is facing Valverde in his prime. I am ready for the 2022 Remco hype!
You really are yanking this thread's chain, aren't ya?So he's winning the Vuelta this year?

This 10-minute, partially anaerobic effort has little in common with 3-week race endurance but it signals that Remco should be very strong at least on moderate climbs.
This is not even his final form.

It is always strange to make graphs but there is no reference on where the data comes from.1800+ VAM (on a moderately steep climb) and almost 7 w/kg: this looks like a very good effort, even if only 10.5 minutes long.
Come now, don't you know how it works when he wins?
Remco has been targeting and training to be at his very top for this specific race.
His opponents are simply using this as training, are not really trying, and stopped for coffee.
You mean it's a good climb for bad W/kg estimations? It's a bad climb for good W/kg estimations.
Also that. Mostly because it had this little descent in it, I think it should give an underestimation. You mean it's a good climb for bad W/kg estimations?
That will be exciting to see but can’t blame him for them starting their seasons laterHe needs to be facing Rog and Pog.
These small races are too easy for him
Some dude supposedly saw Evenepoel's Strava power data before he deleted it, saying 423W for the climb. Assuming he is a bit heavier (62-63) than his normal weight (61), that would still put him at 6.8 to 6.7 W/kg. If those guys of Cycling Graphs are using his "mid season" weight (61) then that would indeed mean over 6.9W/kg.View: https://twitter.com/ammattipyoraily/status/1488931064026439688?cxt=HHwWkIC55b-636kpAAAA
Evenepoel likely around 6.6. Good but not crazy
I didn't know you were so explosive. On the contrary: wasn't that your weakness?
“In the past I struggled a few times on such steep arrivals, yes. We worked very hard on it over the winter. I think I showed that today that I improved those lesser points. It was a ten minute climb. That used to be not my best part, but today I was able to release some of the best climbers in the world here. We will try to continue this trend.”
Is it true that you have more muscle mass than last year?
“Physically I have changed a bit, yes. After that fall in the Tour of Lombardy (in August 2020, ed.), my body was never really able to rest. Now I really did nothing for a month. I have grown some muscle mass in a natural way. I've done very little fitness, but I've worked a little more on the sprints and a little more on minute values. If you want to start off in a race, you just have to be able to ride at full speed for a minute or two. That laid the foundation for my victory.”
