IMHO that Vuelta a Espana means nothing. All crucial stages were at the beginning of the race, when Evenepoel hit them fresh as daisy in absolute peak shape while after Sierra Nevada (which was a pretty tame major mountain stage as well) the big mountain stages were gone.Indeed, Roglic with proper preparation and no issues during the GT is easily top 3 in the world. Vuelta was a nice test for Remco to see if he could keep his form for 3 weeks, as well as long, steep and high altitude climbs. This just means he can win a GT. He still has to proof that he can win it against the best of the world, which is much more difficult.
The 2023 Giro d'Italia especially the 3 Merlons & Lussari combo shows if Evenepoel is able to perform in the 3rd week of a grand tour after 2 weeks of load before and hence whether he can challenge Pogacar & Vingegaard in future or likely would get slaughtered by them.
He has blown up before at the Giro d'Italia. But his display at the Vuelta a Espana looked super strong.
We'll see if he can perform the same at a back loaded Giro d'Italia. Then, we have our answer.
Personally I think yes he can. But I might be wrong about him again and he blows up in the Dolomites!
