Did you watch that race?

Landa was there on every mountain stage pulling for Froome. He was the last man for Froome that edition. Dropping most of the other GC-contenders and finishing within in the top 10 on almost every hard stage. Thats how he finished so high up on GC himself. He was one of the strongest riders in the race... while finishing 102th in first ITT.

But I am not questioning Landa's strenght I am questioning if he could have spent a little more on pulling and a little less on keeping up with the guys he dropped. But that could be a team decision, like UAE are doing with Adam YAtes atm.

I agree with you. Look at WVA, he goes as deep as possible and comes to a standstill. I've never seen Landa do that, but it could be that that's indeed a team decision.

thanks, it's always tough with these things. the two years after SKY rode with 2 leaders (Froome+Thomas and Thomas+Bernal) but before that you had Porte killing himself along with everyone not named Froome and then going slow the last bit of the climb.

On one hand you would expect 2017 Froome beating Uran and Bardet with a bigger margin so maybe he could have used that extra 2% from Landa, on the other hand you could argue that with La Vuelta coming up it was sound of SKY to put a cap on Landa's watts to just enough for Froome to win.

Either way it is something Quick-Step and Landa will talk about before they sign a potential deal.

What? There are countless riders that had disastrous (a lot more disastrous then a cold and a little crash) Giro or Tour and came back the same year winning/podium Vuelta. They had to change their plans sure and adjust training, but what else are they going to do, go home and cry? I don't understand why would that be sooo haaaard for Remco? What is this narrative with this guy needing so much will power to adjust plans, train and come to a race ready for podium?

It's not an easy feat, for any rider, to prepare for a super peak, have it all go awry, and then find another super peak for a GT in the same season. It's one thing win your first GT, then riding the wave of success, go for the second with a few months in between; entirely another to pull yourself up by the bootstraps after bitter disappointment and rise to another big occasion. It can be done, but it's no easy task, mentally and physically.

Do people forget Remco CRUSHED a flat short ITT and won a mid length ITT a week later despite being very sick?

Compare that to Ayuso who lost 3 minutes in the Vuelta 30km ITT when he was sick

Remco should fleece Soudal for what he can and run. It doesnt matter who he races for or what a team can do for him.
