If that was the most serious thing that has happened to him, his life is tiny and limited..
Guys like Armstrong and Benal, were not broken but actually facing deaths door able to see that blinding bright light in the beyond that is always talked about!!
Did his actions cause punctuated lung, cardiac arrest, traumatic brain injury, temporary death? What? Hitting the mailman and some broken bones needs some perspective. Wow! Social media over sharing ..sure..but now I hear what he has to say..wow!! Someone needs to make sure not too self absorbed!!
Don't Belgians have the equivalent of Danny Thomas, March of Dimes, ect commercials?

Remco get some perspective!!
Wow! Just wow! People can feel like in a really dark place without any injuries too. For a pro athlete hitting the bottom again, specially when it was so close to another big setback and lomg recovery, can be really hard. And like I said you can feel bad even without injuries. Who are you to judge how other humans are allowed to feel. What a lowbow of a message.

P.S. The video was touching and sad but also heart warming 🙏🏼

Hopefully he has a good debut this friday. Couple of weeks ago, i was hoping for a comeback win. But some of his latest interviews have tempered my hopes. I'll take a solid performance.
I’m actually feeling the other way around and expect a lot of him. Might be because I’m just excited to see him race again, but he also went to altitude. I would think they wouldn’t bother if they didn’t think it was worth for a shot at Liege.

It's been a long time since his last race and I'm wondering if he won't lack confidence in the peloton. I suppose training cannot make up for that? I guess we'll know on Friday. Go Remco!

Interesting. As a Gen-X kinda guy, I'm really not sure what to make of all this. At the risk of sounding more critical than I intend to be, I have questions. Is this just social media oversharing? All injuries are different, but "the hardest battle of my life"? Not falling 30 feet into a ravine in GdL? I guess I'm wondering why this one in particular results in such a post. Comes across as a lot of drama...to this old fart.

I dunno. The guy has had a lot of injuries, I hope he doesn't quit, as another one is sure to come.
Was wondering that too. Could be the Lombardia crash and recovery came at a time (as is true for many at that age) of being physically invulnerable, and he could feel like of course he’d bounce back. This winter’s crash happened at a different point in life when he was more aware of vulnerabilities and of how long it can take to come back (and how hard he has to work) from severe injuries.

I didn’t expect you to be a Gen-X guy. Every time I see your name, I think about a very religious middle-aged neighbour with a mustache and glasses. So maybe a Gen-X guy after all 😀

You are so right. In fact, anyone who is not about to die of painful cancer today or tomorrow should know better than to perceive hardship in their lives or complain about difficulties. Because we should only view our own pain and troubles in comparison to others’ difficulties, even though the “others” are completely different individuals and may not actually feel as “bad”. Such wisdom!

Perhaps this shoulder injury was particularly painful even when doing day-to-day activities who knows with these things.

Not my style either but probably we could all strive to be a little bit more open with appreciating those around us. Don't think this is about pleasing fans.

Let's hope he can make for some exciting races.

there is a solution for that

Go on a solo
Brabantse Pijl isn't hard enough to go for a solo, which means he probably isn't able to get away. Years ago they didn't mark him as much, but now I feel he can only get away if others are just too tired to follow.

I went a bit deeper and wanted to see if I can check based on his Strava records in what shape he is. If I could find a similar training sessions like one of the last ones he uploaded. He did the same ride, basically at the same tempo. But he wasn't that impressive at Dauphine... So not sure what to expect then the next week. He might be much better at Romandie.

He solo'ed at the Druivenkoers, he'll solo at the Brabantse Pijl.

He was good enough to win the tt with a clear margin. His climbing legs were still on the shelf, though.
