Bora makes many mistakes on the road that are a bit similar to Soudal. Don't get me wrong, I like Bora also but it seems like Ineos is more experienced when it comes to managing the teams tactics
This is exactly what I said yesterday...the two teams are carbon copy's of each other...I don't think Bora is a better deal for Remco at this point. If I was Remco I would want to make some deal with Trek...far fetched I know.

Sad to see him crash, hope he isn't badly affected for the business end of the Tour. I was a bit surprised to see him so active at the front but the crash was unfortunate.

BS...he didn't waste any energy. Jesus, if he was tucked in the field and went down you folks would say "he should have been in the front". He kept out of trouble and had bad luck with that crash. I swear some of you people watch these races in a vacuum.
He was staying second wheel for hours. GC contenders don't do that.

No mate. He did everything right until the 5 km mark, then he just needs to calm a little bit and go to the back of the peloton. He wasn't there, he was in the middle and caught a sprinter crashing.

No, GC riders shouldn't spend so much time at the front wasting energy.
Remco and the team can not do a thing right in most of yours head! The team did great work putting Remco near the front from Km 25 until 4K left, which normally is a very good idea, he got super unlucky with the crash infront of him after they eased up a bit!Cattaneo and Eenkhorn rode their heart out and did great!

And also, one more thing. People tend to forget how good the team rode when Remco won the GC in the Vuelta, when he podium last year in his debut tour and before he had to abandon the Giro in 23 with covid. Which he probably would have won.

Yes, UAE and Visma is better teams with much bigger resources. But, it is not an option to join either of them. Redbull, Ineos etc is not a step up in my head and do not look like they have the same team morale as SOQ . If Landa and Vervaeke would not have been injured, SOQ would have the third best support team in this Tour, i still believe they will do a good job for Remco this tour, but ofcourse lacking a bit in the high mountains because of Landa out and VPP back from injury!

Most important now is that Remco is not too badly injured and can recuperate before the TT/mountains 🙏

You must understand that GC riders shouldn't put their nose in the wind when they not need to. Only Remco spent one hour at second wheel and also was part of Merlier's train.

I wonder if he even crashed. Seems more like someone bumped in to him. Still may have hurt his ribs.
He crashed.

we'll see what the news is on his injuries or how he wakes up. It wouldn't shock me if he called it quits for this Tour and did not start tomorrow. Even if he's not terribly bad with the crash...his mental and spirit state at this point has to be a bit decimated.
If he’s not too banged up, he can quit after the TT which he should win.

Remco is the only GC contender riding in the front, second row.
Primoz was there until RBH sprinters moved up. He settled into the "safe" zone. That's where Remco crashed; not at the front. It's also supposed to be a more sane GC sanctuary and why the 5km zone exists. Doesn't help in this type of headwind run in, though.

He isn't going to call quits just because of a minor crash. We're only 3 stages in, long way to go, and he still has to peak

he's already lost some spark after stage one, plus we're not sure how bad the crash was, we won't know how he feels when he wakes up tomorrow morning...he's got to be spooked from so many mishaps...I know his mental resiliency is below nobody's, but enough is enough. I hope I'm completely wrong and my pessimism is overblown but I don't feel too good about it.

Remco is throwing in the towel especially as a possible confidence boosting TT coming up.. and stage 10 is going to pop the peloton. If you belong you survive, if you don't 10 , you blow up. Bastille Day !!

I’m with you on the marginal gains, but 30 minutes behind Eenkhoorn who is twice the size of him is more like pacing behind a motorbike for Remco, nice training to hit peak form before the TT and to stay in a good position! Unfortunatelly he tend to be the worst two days after a crash, so lets hope it is not that bad. The bruises on his knee and elbow was pretty minor, more concerned of his ribs. But, both Steels and Foré says that he is ok, so looks promising👍

It was more like one hour and it's also more than marginal gains.

I don't feel having a sprinter added to the roster is such a big issue. Visma can also go for green with WVA. You just need a very solid team, and SOQ doesn't have this, and it has nothing to do with Merlier at the moment.
Right because Merlier fends for himself. The big issue is lack of mountain support.

Not sure mountain support will matter as much. He can just ride along with Visma/UAE train, but on the stages with wind and no altitude he's missing support. Couple of riders to keep him in front at all times.
