Its not going to help him when you have the aliens in Pogi and Vingegaard riding the TDF. As it stands, Remco had Landa at the 2024 TDF who did an excellent job and there is little you can do if Landa is injured. Ideally, you need two support climbers at Landa's level, however, they are hard to find. At the end of the day you need to go when Pogi and Vingegaard go.
We all agree that Remco needs to up his game if he can compete with those two in the mountains. The theory is that he needs a better setup at a larger budget team to possibly achieve that, with the inplications for better mountain support it implies. It's the same for Tadej and Jonas, who will start the Tour with the best support money can buy.

Remco changing teams for a better set up, different training regime etc, etc, etc could be a prudent move, however, the team will not give him seven mountain domestics as is implied by some.

I feel that as long as he isn't clearly the best during a GT, he doesn't need so many mountain domestiques. In the TDF he needs 1 person to fetch bottles during mountain stages and to show he's with you.

Even though he lost some ground and seconds in the run in I´m still happily surprised yesterdays crash didn´t have a bigger impact on his performance today. On the other hand one can wonder if he would have had a few more percent of power in the final.

@CyclistAbi Honestly i can understand your viewpoint in general, i don't completely agree with it. But in general i can understand it. But not in this particular situation. In stage 1 Remco did not lose time cause of Merlier. And seeing that you just generalise in your answer, you yourself can't seem to pinpoint were exactly he lost time due to merlier in stage 1. Again Soudal and other teams chased immediately after the echelon as hard as they could. You can only ride as hard as you can. Now if you want to debate that in general having different goals with multiple riders ain't beneficial for the GC rider. I can see that point. Most people believe that. But not in this particular situation. A general idea ain't the same as 1 Situation.

@remco today. He did not seem that hindered by his crash. But it was not the hardest day. Maybe he has some damage we could not see today. That said. Remco held on for dear life, whilst Almeida did manage to follow in that final. Can't even say Remco worked harder cause Almeida worked for Pogacar. Right now he's top 5, not Top 3. He will need to improve during the tour if he wants to podium.

Hope this was one of his lesser days with the crash yesterday. Did a lot of work to position himself every climb and in the pursuit of Pogi and Vingo.

Will be too much now for yellow, if he can win the TT it’s good. I’m guessing he can gain around 20”.
