It's said that a few years back Pogi & Vingo asked Remco to skip the Tour and give them another chance. He gave them even more chances than they asked for!
Remco at his best isn't close to Jonas at his best. If we want to compare like with like

I have to say the Giro route looks pretty good for Remco, few mountain stages, lots of hilly/punchy stages and a 40km flat and largely untechnical TT.
If Vingegaard is on the start line he will always be the favourite but I think Remco should give it a go, after all a lot can happen during 3 weeks.

Always difficult to compare different eras and of course the current crop of Pogi and Jonas are all time greats but Tony Rominger was an all time great climber when he was “on”. Like ‘93 Tour and ‘95 Giro.
When was Indurain trashed by Pantani?
Pantani finished ahead of Miguel Indurain in the General Classification only once in a Grand Tour - ‘94 Giro won by Berzin. Every other occasion Indurain ‘trashed’ Marco.
Maybe you are confusing with ‘98 TdF when Pantani destroyed Jan Ullrich?

I was considering exactly that Giro in 1994, when Pantani beat Indurain despite losing like 5 minutes in the ITT's, which for me is an equivalent of thrashing (in the mountains), wasn't he also the better climber in the Tour 1994 (too you to watched it live, only saw some videos)?
But okay, if we take 1995 into consideration, I probably over exaggerated a bit.
Anyway, I do agree that it's impossible to compare the relevant levels of each era, but if people consider Pogacar (and Vingegaard) as the greatest climbers ever by some margin and judged by mountain stages won and sheer dominance, this may not be too far fetched, then Evenepoel (in top form, which is the biggest hurdle for him) could very well be somewhere around top 30.
Of course inferior to Pogacar and Vingegaard, but that's impressively high level of climbing.

Pantani was a revelation but never a genuine threat to Indurain at the ‘94 Tour. Finished 7 minutes down. With Indurain’s crushing TT superiority he only needed to keep Marco on a short leash in the mountains - which he did, easily. Again people underestimate Indurain’s climbing. In ‘94 Indurain also dropped Pantani on Hautacam along with every other climber except Luc Leblanc.

Pantani was less consistent. His heights were unreachable but he also had worse days, he was crushed by Indurain (like other top climbers) on La Plagne in 1995.

Remco final program will be interesting. Curious wether he'll do giro or not, and if not what races he'll ride.
Wouldn't be surprised if he does go. It ain't perfect but it's better suited to him than the tour.
Unfortunately everyone is obsessed with the Tour. When a Giro + Vuelta double might be better this year program wise.

We'll know next week. Personally I would also go for Giro, but he won't. And if he doesn't, I'll only be happy if he does MSR and De Ronde for classics
It might indeed be better but you don't spend that much money to not send a guy to the Tour. Even if the other 2 GTs might be better

Next week their training camp is starting, and RBH media day is on December 10th. Last year on media day, Roglic announced his schedule. I expect team leaders (Roglic, Evenepoel, Lipowitz) to announce their schedule this year too.
Not sure comparing Indurain's very disciplined GT efforts against a non GC threat as relevant. Pantani liked to make statements and lived largely in his own vision of himself, unfortunately. Evenepoel might have done very well against an Indurain-type diesel. Jonas and Tadej are wired alot tighter for accelerations.

I dont see a planet where Lipo and Rog do 2 GT while Remco only gets 1, if Remco is the unquestioned leader of the team

I think it's just that much more about the Tour. Someone mentioned this on another thread I think. And I'm not sure Remco wants 2 GC's? They'd all like to be leading for the Tour, the team #1 is going to lead that race. What they outlined makes sense to me.
Lipo = #1 Giro + #2 Tour
Remco = #1 Tour
Roglic = Tour Stages + #1 Vuelta
If Lipo kills at the Giro it's gonna get interesting.

Doubt that Lipowitz can kill at the Giro and also at the TDF. To kill at the Giro he needs to be at 100%. Pogacar wasn't even 100% at Giro so he could be 100% at the TDF. And Vingegaard was 100% at the TDF while not 100% at Vuelta.
I don't think you can be at your best in 2 GT's unless it's Giro + Vuelta. Therefor if Lipowitz kills at Giro, I expect decompression, and not much at TDF.

Remco is an all rounder like Pog. Classics plus the Tour is the best schedule for him.
