Thats the caveat here. Cause form was great, he described his TT as literally perfect and said his numbers and values were super on numerous occasions just to get absolutely humiliated by Del Toro. Remco just not a good climber

He also said after Valencia he was at 85%

He seemed to be in shape the week before.

There are many kinds of shapes. The kite one can make you fly in the right conditions, but other times you will plummet straight to the ground.

There are nearly three weeks until Catalunya where he'll have to climb better, regardless of whether Vingegaard is riding or not.

They following the same schedule build-up trajectory for TDF. No one is 100% now theyre in the same boat. Besides maybe Ayuso (joking) who literally lives on Teide before Algarve and PN.

Dont worry, Remco isnt the only one who will be humiliated by Del Toro this year
It's unfortunate Del Toro isn't riding Catalunya so Evenepoel can return the favour.

This forum is a great example of mankind's reactionary nature. Remco is not a peer of Pogacar in GT's, but he's not suddenly a significantly worse climber than Tiberi, Van Eetvelt, Tejada, Gall, Johannessen, Gee, Nordhagen, Van Wilder, Plapp, Rondel, Storer, effing Byron Mundon, ancient Wilco Kelderman...I mean, come on. He's highly inconsistent, absolutely, but some of these takes ("Remco can't climber," etc.) are ridiculous.

His stock is shockingly low now. If I could buy his stock, I 100% would.

And who said he's a worse climber than them? It's been said that he's not a natural climber.

Those are people who finished ahead of him on the first climb in the UAE Tour, and based on that performance many have posted that he isn't a climber, needs to give up on GTs, etc. I don't have any interest in digging up posts to prove it or in debating the point, so take it for what it is.

I think this issue can perhaps be resolved by asking the readers of this thread two questions:

a) Was Evenepoel worse at the UAE Tour than he should be when he is in good shape?

b) If the answer is yes, are there any explanations that are not automatically also excuses?

This is an interesting take on the UAE tour performance: https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...-doubt-on-remco-evenepoels-uae-tour-struggles I don’t know if it is believable but it matches Remcos behaviour, before when he has underachieved it has been a lot of anger and excuses. This time it doesn’t seem so emotional, like he is not so invested. Another thing that plays into this scenario is that Red Bull sent him to UAE with a sprint team. It makes no sense to do this if they were facing UAEs best riders and wanted Remco to win.

Del Toro didn't humiliate him though, more like Evenepoel humiliated himself
That's harsh. Remco was riding his race and Del Toro his own. Del Toro was strongly aggressive at the end and couldn't be brought back. Every other racer suffered the fate of "losing" to him although that isn't how GC riders perform. They race for time and the opportunity to win stages; hopefully with bonus seconds.
