*2021, 2021 had the rain stop at 105 k to go, but before that it was obviously horrible and it still stayed pretty muddy for the final. I‘d say 2021 was way worse as well, those early sectors had some massive puddles and were in even worse shape and obviously there were more sectors than at the Tour.

Gall is one of the worst decenders in the peloton! Come on, there's plenty of examples of Remco doing bad downhills.

I think he improved recently. Obviously not the best, but much better than he was

I wouldn't call his descending skills questionable, they're well above median imho. And he ups them with clear manner of risktaking when he's 'on' day.

Edit: And remember where he came here? After that accident in Lombardia, how much drop there was from that bridge down? (there were no mattresses down there if I remember correctly..) I don't see any fear in him these days diving to the corners or whatever..

It was questionable a few years ago, but he has clearly improved over time. He’s not the best, but he’s good enough.

I think it was decided this week. As in, they were preparing to ride De Ronde if the weather was okay. But they didn't want to say this out loud, because people would say he's weak. Thus they kept saying he wasn't riding it until the weather was good, and then spin up the marketing machine.
