I wasn't sure where to place this thread...Anyway, there was a nice piece on cyclingnews today about Skil possibly getting a Tour invite should Vacansoleil go even more in the toilet. Iwan Spekenbrink of Skil talks about the goals of the team which are not simply to chase points. Now..everyone knows I am a Skil homer...but I believe there is a lot to be gleaned from this...mostly that if more races took teams based on their continued anti-doping stance..it will lend more credence for teams to follow suit. Hit them in the pocketbook...lost advertising in the big races. I know this is probably not feasable in the current structure, but it is one way to move forward. Now all that being said..if Skil riders were busted..I would be done with the sport LOL! If this is the wrong forum..MODS please move.

just move it from here,it doesn't belong here.and if you suport a team just because you think it's clean(whatever this means) you are a lost cause.and yes kluge will be a big rider.huge talent.

Whats your problem skippy..dog **** in your cereal? I don't need you to tell me if I'm a lost cause or not. You root for who/what you want to for whatever reason you like and I will do the same.

Vacansoleil out, Skil in to make a point about clean racing, only to ride alongside RadioShack or Astana?

Thats not what I'm saying...I'm saying that Skil should have been in from the get go...they have set their team up as a polar opposite to Vacansoleil. If the Tour chose teams based on what they perceive as good public relations then it would be a win/win.

Anyway, I won't discuss anymore. But for all the ****ing around here it is nice to see a uplifting story regarding the building and development of a team.

Skil is as always full of s***. they try to be the best student in the class and get a nice pet on the back of their head and are then left in the cold again but with a smile because you are a good boy!! only that doesn't get you anywhere.

there is no way skill will ride a gt this year. Said same thing last year when skil said the same bs story's and also rode nothing of interest

in fact this year they aren't even invited to paris nice. bretagne schuller now gets that place... how humiliating

uplifting story?? what uplifting story?? they have become progressively worse every year in results and talents and their program has become worse as well. seriously what major talents do they have?? I read bonnin and kittel are the world biggest u23 talents in that interview with spekenbrink. wtf is that guy injecting himself with?? I can name 5 colombians that have shown more than them in the past few years as u23 in worldwide races but I;m sure they are not in skils amazing "talentpool".

spekenbrink makes a fool out of himself every time he opens his mouth, which is quite a lot.

skil is not as good as vac IMHO. they did well as a PCT team. A PT team? no.

Kittel is good but not that good. I heard in 2009 that HTC wanted him and Degenkolb both. But they finally only picked Degenkolb.

I haven't found their team all that interesting the past few years. Not saying there's anything wrong with them... but other then Kenny trying to hang on for the Lantern Rouge in the Tour I simply haven't seen much to generate interest.

Their biggest win in the last 3 years is what... a stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt or Qinghai Lake? Dutch Food Valley Classic?

Who's the draw for the Tour? Kenny Van Hummel? I'm sorry... that's just not enough.

Can you provide me with a link to the Interview where he claimed that? If he really stated that then he is downright delusional.

I've heard from inner sources that Skil's management only consists of idiots.

1st. Great avatar DT ;)

2nd. Skil over Vacansoleil??? Nah... before invite Skil I'd invite Cafe de Colombia - Colombia es Pasion to Le Tour and They'd teach to the likes of Contador, Andrew, Basso et al. how to climb

I've got to be honest; I really don't want to see them in the Tour again. A team whose only hope is to get in a few breaks for TV time or fight for the Lanterne Rouge just doesn't do it for me.

TRDean, I know you're a big fan, and I like that you are loyal to them, but that team has never excited me. Kluge, Kittel, and Veelers seem to have some potential, so things could change but do they have anyone that can climb even a little?

Yep, I'm sure this would happen
All this unproven Colombian climb domination is becoming unbearable. Irregardless of the topic ryo claims colombians are the answer.

There's a difference to exciting riding I'n s/America and being the best climber at the top level.

Meh, Both teams in reality are teams for breakaway, Pegasus were barely better (sorry McEwen wasn't going to contest any high speed sprints at the tour anymore anyway).

people being pretty hard on skil, granted they don't have an amazing sqaud, but I like seeing them attempt to be competitive in the races they attend anyway. Granted they probably wouldn't bring a lot to the tour, but I enjoyed their participation last time they rode anyway.
