Nope, too inconsistent. Nibali and Quintana are champions, he is not. He is at the same level as Landa, Kruijswijk, Aru etc., but nothing more than that. Needs to show me once and for all that he doesn't break mentally or psychically during 3 weeks.

Pinot is still young and like the original poster wrote re Pinot's future, he could still improve but when you look at his opposition : who are still young like Aru, Quintana, Yates brothers, Chaves and co, even with Contador and Froome off the scene eventually, it won't get much easier for him plus a few even younger riders showing promise. He needs to toughen up a bit. He gives me the impression that when everything is going well he's fine but when there are problems he seems a bit fragile. The next two or three years are critical for him. He either matures into a strong podium chance in every GT or he continues as a top five rider who shows promise but doesn't deliver often enough.

I'm not worry... I'm pretty sure that the hype train will collapse in 3 weeks... he will not do top5, he isn't consistent. And nowadays bardet is clearly one step above pinot in gt's
Remember that you wrote Pinot would not top-50 at La Strade :p ?

I won't fall off the train, believe me :) . Inconsistent? Human...I'll leave it at that.

Quintana is the arch-favorite for the Giro. But for the podium, Thibaut has a real shot. I will quote you again in three weeks  .
Blockhaus will tell us a lot :D

I have this one marked :) . Nairo, Pinot, the rest far behind...and that would go a long way for a podium finish. On the paper, a good climb for Thibaut.

Nice to see what's going to happend. I really hope good results for him, he's kinda earned it and kinda not.

He is too satisfied. There's no sign of fight towards better results in team surroundings, no disagreement towards everything else than he. Never saying those other teams look much better I wanna go there, this team sucks. No flame, where's the flame?

Agree with the ending, like a lot of the French riders he seems satisfied with were he's at, really wish more of them would take the step abroad to another team, French teams can't compete financially with the best and if you want to be one of them you have to join them. Really wish he signed for sky in 2014 after his tour podium I think he would have stepped up if he did that. Right now there has been nothing to suggest he's better than he was 3 years ago, yes he's improved in tt but his climbing has regressed if anything. Hope he proves me wrong but I feel this Giro will be another case of never being in contention and going for a stage win in the final week and a top 10.

To be fair, it's the sponsor who kept him doing the same things over and over. Thibaut twisted their arm to do the Giro. And the Strade. Ramon, I really wish you're wrong, but here we are, regardless of the wide scope of our respective opinions. Alea Jacta Est. Now we're going to know.

It's been a long-time coming: we have been asking for a Pinot Girot. And of course I want Tibopino to silence his critics. No issue during the first three days, so (fingers crossed), it won't be a '15 TdF story.

Be prepared my friends. With no bad luck, on his own merits, he can podium or more. Not that I see him beat Nairito, but if Quintana is only 85%, the race for pink is wide open.

I have high hopes for him, for tomorrow and for entire Giro. He could podium easily I think... I think he's better than all of them except Quintana and Nibali. Quintana is obviously not 100% and Nibali, well I have a hunch his decline will maybe start at this Giro...

Show the best of yourself Thibaut, prove the doubters wrong and thats including me! Tbh, I never doubt he will be able to win stages like this, Im more intrigued by him later in the race, I have no doubt he will do well, but to win against these guys will be a step up. He can do it and is one of the biggest favourites qua his finishing ability so he needs to not disappoint now.

Tomorrow will answer some of the questions regarding his form and level. God willing, tomorrow shall be a day of glory :D
I won't be able to watch the stage but I'm kinda anxious. He's usually subpar in the first mountains encountered.
True. And that's why a great performance tomorrow would be huge. Blockhaus is the moment of truth...I don't worry about week 3. Pinot is good there.

Still, I'm hoping for something big: I would take GT's wheel. Nibali will try, but GT plus ML will real him in. Keep an eye on Nairo, out-kick everybody ftw. Bonus time. Jersey.

...that's why I'm not a DS  .

Having said that, Tibopino was strong today, as shown when TD attacked, the Zakarin. On the second attack, he let the other guys take their responsibilities and no one made the effort. Wise. He can't be the Hincapie of everybody else...

Thibaut went on the inside for the sprint, GT closed the door, the going around was too much to overcome...fair.

I'm cautiously very optimistic. So far he looks strong and rides smart. Blockhaus next...Allez Thibaut!!!

G played it the other way round, took time to respond to the first attack, but was quick to respond to the second.

Nice to see Pinot riding so strongly at the start of a GT. If he had been sprinting against anybody else, I would have been shouting for him (Ok, maybe not against Landa, but Pinot would have won that one anyway).

Needless to say that I'm extremely happy after today's performance.

I had goosebumps when he easily followed the first attack of the main favorite, and he when disposed of a suffering Nibali.

Losing 24s on the best climber on an almost _____________/ stage is very good. Now looking forward for that ITT in the tricolor jersey. Go Thibaut!
