on one level i understand this reaction.

at the same time, i absolutely love seeing a wonderful rider like Pog do what he can. it's a thing of beauty and he also looks so natural, easy and fluid on his bike. and i do not even support him to win.

but i love seeing exploits, even if that means domination, and he is likely to give us many exploits in the future.

and eventually, eventually, he will be challenged, and defeated and that is often the very most dramatic moment in cycling history, when the champion of the time finally shows weakness...1975 TDF was absolutely amaaaaaaaaazing.

then again, with Pog, we could be in for a very long ride...

:)

Not necessarily, we never got that moment for Armstrong, and also not really for Froome.
True for Armstrong. Not true for Froome. Froome looked mortal on his later years. He wasn't as dominant. In his last tours he was dragging his legs a little bit.

I'll tell you this. I have never seen someone like Pogacar. Not even close. The closest that I have seen was Armstrong and we can only say that about the Tour de France. I never saw Merckx racing. Only saw videos and heard stories. Maybe he looks more like Merckx. For sure must have been very boring to the public if you are not a fan of them. But as far as my experience is concerned this is the most dominance that I have seen in my life. It is like he has so much "extra" energy that he can follow attacks left and right, attack from far away, fall sleep on the bike and start again and catch the front group. The only weakness was the team and it looks like he has that solved this year. Now he looks bored and probably start riding new races to win and add to his palmares. It is strange that everyone is so far away from him. TBH.

Pretty mature performance from Remco and given that it ended up a last km burn up he lost a few seconds less than I would have expected. At times he was a bit too far back and was lucky none of the moves were sustained but overall he should be satisfied by the outcome.

Biggest disappointment was Carapaz dropping so early and so badly.

I am enjoying watching Pogacar race. I had him in my CQ team on his first year and became a fan then I suppose. He has a swashbuckling style of racing, going for broke when opportunities present themselves, which is refreshing after years of racing by numbers dominating the viewing. I'm staying away from the clinic for now .... I'm sticking with the fun before the (probably inevitable) cynicism really poops on the party platter.

Lafay was a surprise today.

Until now, I still cannot see the difference between the riders Lafay and Rochas. I hope this will be clearer in the future. I also couldn‘t see the difference between Vlasov and Sivakov, until Vlasov became the clearly better rider of the two.

Lafay is actually starting to look less like a kid and more like a young man now. We first noticed him at the Tour de Yorkshire 2019 where he spent the final queen stage out in the break.
