Edit, in a tribute to Fausto Coppi, I decided to Coppi and Paste the profiles in this post up to the OP.

Now that the detailed profiles are out, I'm positively surprised, especially by the difficulty of the finale of stage 5. Stage 6 always looked difficult enough, but this is a really, really nice mix of stages.

10s boni's at the finish always? Old Roglic would've won easily, not sure if he still has some decent stomp in him
If he's good I expect him to still get 2nd in the stomps behind Del Toro. But stage 2 may be easy enough for Van der Poel to be in there, and stage 6 should simply be an out and out W/kg contest that you can grind better stompers to dust.

You know it's steep when you look at the final 350 metres they only do the last time round, think 'that section isn't too hard', then look at the bottom of the profile and see it's still almost 10%.

I think I already said this when the route was announced: conceptually I like an all-mid mountain Tirreno, but it falls flat when the two main GC days both end on unipuerto circuits.

You're probably right. I think it's a common risk with murito style stages that they get backloaded, especially with circuits.

It also doens't help that stage 2 is the only one where the finale isn't harder than it looked at first.

Giulio was born at the start of stage 6, hopefully by then Rogla already with sufficient advantage, for Giulio to contest the stage from a breakaway.

RCS got it completely right - on a circuit, no less - with Castelfidardo in 2021 and have since done nothing remotely similar.
Weather played a big part in that stage. Outside of that, I think Osimo 2023 was similar enough. It had more altitude gain over the entire stage at least.

Osimo had by far the hardest climb with 5.5k to go to Castelfidardo's 28k, and also a bit more room for recovery between climbs. So it was way more backloaded.

Although admittedly, that Osimo stage would probably have been better had Roglic and Almeida not been the two main GC riders.

The MTF having the weather conditions of the NK Tegenwindfietsen didn't help much either.

Generally I wish they just had both options in the same Tirreno, with a moderate MTF, a murito finish, and then a murito stage that doesn't finish on top. If there's a stage design I'm annoyed I haven't seen back it's Lanciano + Chieti or Guardiagrele.

Surprised to see so many top sprinters here like Milan, Philipsen, Magnier and of course Gaviria. Last stage is surely a sprint, but stage 3 and 4 shouldnt have many sprinters survive. Especially stage 4 looks perfect for a big strong break to create havoc. Good luck to the team trying to control break formation on Ovindolli. Hopefully some GC names are playing along here.

everyone will survive stage 3

If you have already read the same post in the Paris-Nice thread, feel free to just go down to the next post.

It is a basic courtesy to each other to avoid spoilers in race threads about (near-)simultaneous events, but this week perhaps more than almost any other the time when we will watch two races races in some sort of catch-up mode, and others will be doing so in a different order. I'm sure we trust each other that it would not be deliberate spoiling of someone else's enjoyment, but enthusiasm to point something out could easily get the better of us: please be careful about that.

If someone does post here a give away of events the same day in Paris Nice, please tag them as soon as possible in a (polite of course) request that they delete it or put it behind spoiler tags: they are unlikely to go off line before anyone has the chance to do so. You can always @Armchair Cyclist and @Cookster15 at the time, in case either of us are in a position to get there first.

This applies to the race threads: I would imagine we all know that staying out of rider and team threads, for example, is wise if you are trying to preserve ignorance of the day's events.

We wouldn't want this to be a disciplinary issue in terms of warnings: if a spoiler happens, its probably inadvertent (but maybe more unlikely if people have seen this), but if anyone were to insist on the right to ruin others' enjoyment of a bit of delayed viewing and double down on it, we might conclude otherwise, but I hope no-one would expect that to arise.

If there are extraordinary coincidences between the two races that deserve comment, there is probably another thread that would be suitable for them.

Thanks, and enjoy both races, whatever order you watch them in.
