Of course he is. But he's not a better puncheur or classics rider.

Hushovd came in ahead of Froome and 4 seconds behind Contador, I think that says everything about how this stage was more of a classic than anything else ;)

Hushovd has tunnel vision towards P-R, and seems to be ahead of Boonen and Cancellara at the moment.
This is the year; now or never.

could you please provide some of rodriguez super days in the mountains?

and i am not talking about those days where he wheel sucks every until 1/2 km's from the top and then makes an anaerobic effort to the line, i am talking about those days where he attacks from far out drops every1 or almost every1 and keeps pushing ahead gaining time.

i can only think of one, sestrieres on the 2011 giro and even then contador had to reason to chase and he was minutes down on scarponi who pretty much had just secured his podium place with nibali struggling so people were not too worried about letting him go

i call for a twitter protest to let phinney ride tomorrow!!!!! for those that have twitter ofc, which is not my case

any 90kg rider that pushes himself over this course finishing minutes down on the last group while dozens of riders simply climbed into the car deserves to finish the race.
it's an absolute disgrace!!!

seriously

very much liked rodrigues post comments on facebook

bolded part: people will remember this stage for a long time

also purito must be addicted to facebook, he updates it about 10 times more then any other cyclist :D

he was already back a long time after his flat tire in the peloton.
Kreuziger had a second mechanical, probably you don't know. What a shame, for him and for Alberto too :(

Sestrieres was just a last attempt to gain some time, although it's the only stage I've missed from that Giro. So I could be wrong.

Other examples I can think of are Dauphine 2011, Bola del Mundo last year(ty Airstream) and Pena Cabarga in the 2010 Vuelta.

neither peña cabarga nor bola del mundo were efforts longer then 2 km's.

i did forget about the dauphine, which is my favourite purito performance on the mountains he was great that day with a fast but controlled attack and a dosed effort until the end.

Imo we're demanding too much from him. He's just not that type of rider, only when he's in optima forma like in that Dauphine he can really solo to the win and have a superb day in the mountains.

I heard a rumour that Froome and SKY threw this stage on purpose because they were worried that all the people who spat their dummies out and cried that they were never watching cycling again would actually go through with the threat.

The sport can't afford to lose that many fans in one go.

? He couldn't make it back to the group of favourites according to Mauduit.

well the rai radio said that kreuziger had returned to the group a long time even before final climb. he also had that flat tire a long time before that. at least 15-20 km I think

I hope they'll let him ride tomorrow. He showed amazing heart and class by finishing today.

On a side note: nice to see Amador in the top10 :)

that guy sets steps every year and the biggest one this year it seems. he climbs so well this tirreno and he's very heavy, but also a tremenedious rain rider and downhiller. will be interesting to see him in the classics, unlike last year where he got beaten up terribly by robbers, this years winter has been great for him
