So no we no longer have to hear what an amazing descender Pidcock is. If he was as great has everyone says, he would have left Pogacar behind on the descent into San Remo. But he followed. I suppose you could argue just poor tactics.
its a power descent , not at all like descending the steep side of pramartino

I think Pogacar has ridden that descent more than just about anyone in the peloton apart from maybe Michael Matthews. Pidcock is definitely the better descender in general, but I think how well you know the road is very important on a descent like the Poggio.

Love watching Tom race. He’s superb when on form and the best bike handler out there. That descent off the Poggio isn’t long enough or technical enough to allow him to get away from the likes of Pogacar or even MVdP (if his hand hadn’t been injured). Just think he made a little error in the sprint. He should have attacked on the outside of Pogacar rather than his initial thrust on his inside that Pogacar closed off forcing him to cut back and go again. Literally cost him half a meter if not more.

Superior descending skills can be nullified by familiarity, especially on a short descent like this.

Yup, decent showing today. He just went too early and did not have the legs for a long sprint.

But Catalunya is a special beast. This race has too much elevation gain every single day and few serious mountains in a very short period of time.
If everyone is on form, this is going to be a very long week for Pidcock. Very long.
A top5 finish would be great and a top3 finish would be amazing.

if hes not feeling great on valter i think he will completely tank his gc , maybe not even top 20 . but he will be the favourite to win in barcelona and from there on with a good path towards the ardennes where he will win
