A topic I always like, and one which isn't usually straightforward. We all know Cav, but there tends to be some disagreement about the next few in the ranking. Different people look for different quallities in a sprinter, and different victories differ in their value. Anyhow, we're looking at next season here: some have switched teams, and some youngsters will be at the next stage of their development. Who, in your opinion will come out of 2012 looking like the big sprinters?

Apologise in advance for leaving people out of the poll - limited options. Was tempted to put Guardini, Galimzyanov and others in but I wanted so be objective ish so I started with a CQ subranking of WT sprint stages and day races, swapping a couple.

Is it ethically wrong to hope for the return of the curse of the rainbow shirt?
No? Didn't think so.

Kittel has had a storming 2011, yet it is one thing to surprise, yet another to prove your talent and ride similar results come next year. So I don't think he'll have another 10+ wins.

I hope the 'young' Italians sprinters out there prove their worth and will be able to pick up the torch the aging Napolitano, Petachhi and such, will drop;
Guardini and Modolo to name two, but with Nizzolo, Viviani, Beletti, Gatto, Appolonio, Guarneri and Chicci out there, they have quite a few sprinters I look forward to sprinting in 2012

I'm afraid it will be cavendish but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me if the curse of the rainbow jersey would comeback for him. he seem the type of guy that can get some bad luck like with his teeth I think last year

anyway, here's to haedo!

I reckon the big races: GT stages etc will be divvied up between Cav, Goss, and Farrar mostly. I don't think Guardini will break out in a huge way yet - after all he's on a pro conti team - or that Kittel will be resilient enough yet to be on terms with the three mentioned above. I think Van Hummel and Bos will have great seasons, and Renshaw will join Bennati and Rojas in achieving lots of podiums in WT races but few wins.

Congratulations, you win the "how many Italian sprinters' names can you misspell in one post" award :D

Well, how so?

I could vote for all of them.

Some serious Kittel bandwagon on here. The lad had a lot of good wins but not many (if any?) against the so called big-name sprinters.

But you didn't, and such vote wouldn't affect the ranking anyhow. Only problem would be if everyone did it. The alternative would be to make it a single option poll, in which any non-Cav vote would be unrealistic.

Yeah 2nd most popular for Kittel seems a bit much.

Wishing I'd just gone ahead and put in Guardini for Boasson Hagen now, the result might have been more interesting.

I had Kittel, Greipel. Also Rojas because i'm biased :p
And I decided not to vote for Cav, just to be original.

I'm hopeful that Kittel will challenge Cavendish from time to time, although realistically I think that Cavendish will be strongest. I hope that Greipel will get the odd look in too.

Voted Cav, Goss, and other.

Cav speaks for itself, so nothing too orignal there.
Now that he has the chance to race for himself more often, I think Goss will have a good year.
Other - I was impressed with Galimzyanov last year, and would like to see him continue to do well, and hopefully get some more shots at some GT stages (although with Menchov going to Katusha that might not happen...)

I was tempted to vote for Sagan, but I don't see him as a sprinter, even though I think he will have another excellent year.
