Boonen still has 2 maybe 3 good years in him.

All Lefevre is good at it seems, is criticising his own riders...

Agreed. Most fans were openly questionning QS tactics in their 'home' races this Spring. There seemed to be a distinct lack of tactics and DS skills employed at QS and my memory is of Tommeke trying to make his own luck in the semi-Classics and Classics this year.

Boonen isnt even 30 yet. Id say he has at least 5 if not more good years in him.

'Would have won Gold in Geelong if I had been there'

"You only get two or three chances in life to be world champion. This was perhaps my second," Boonen admitted.

CN: [http://cyclingnews.com/news/boonen-geelong-worlds]

He’s basing his assessment on who was there at the end rather than his impressions of the course; in fact, he confessed that he only saw the ending. “I only saw the last two kilometres. And that was the retransmission,”

VN: [http://velonation.com/News/ID/5893/Boonen-if-I-had-been-there]

Well have I ever, and in April it is this again

And in the mean time looking for a new team, then his relatioship with grande PF is done, and the team is also going to fold next year, cause sponsor Quick Step is going AWOL.

That's not what he said at all.
"Hindsight is always easy, but if I had been fit, I would surely have been in the final group,” he said. "Whether I would also have won, that's a different question."
It's also worth noting that the translations in VN and CN differ in a key point:
“I only saw the last two kilometres. And that was the retransmission,” he admitted. “I’m not an early bird.
“I only saw the last two kilometers. And then the rebroadcast. I'm not an early bird!” he said.

Man, that is such bull****. He said that a Boonen in top shape would've been in that Thor peloton - and if you're denying that you're delusional - and then that there's quite the difference between being there and winning. Not once does he say that he would've been world champion. Just that a rider only gets two or three chances to be world champion, and that perhaps this was his second. The rest of the video he spends praising Hushovd.

And it's final two kilometers live + rebroadcast after. He did have a race on Sunday.

As hrotha allready mentioned he didn't say "Would have won Gold in Geelong if I had been there". I don't like twisting peoples words.
Boonen in good form ofcourse would've been in that last group. I'm no big Boonen fan or something, but it certainly isn't crap he's talking about.
I'm not sure of this, but Sporza probably asked Boonen about the WC and if it was a missed opportunity etc(which it is for him). So it's not such a strange answer.

Title of this thread ...

Tornado Tom feels left in the dark, Lefevere counters.

The counter from Lefevere October 29: "Steels to join Quick Step as trainer"

“I know many members of this group, whom I've already had the chance to work with, back when I was a rider,” Steels said.

For his part, Lefevere is enthusiastic about his riders having access to Steels’ expertise.

?Wonder what the the real Tom thinks about this? - mix-up, it is starting to become a name game TuttiFrutti at QS, with Boonen on the verge of throwing the towel if you ask me.

'Lefevere in the dark over Quick Step's ProTeam status'

and what team can Tom go to ?

Omega-Pharma-Lotto, Vacansolei and Saxo are teams that would love to get Boonen I think. Perhaps even BMC, they seem to have a lot of cash.

I don't know if OPL can pay someone like Boonen though(with Gilbert, Greipel and Jurgen already in the team)

I would really love to see him go to OPL though. They would dominate all the classics. They only need Cancellara to have the new Mapei then :)

I think he'll stay. Whether with PT licence or without it Quick Step will be invited to all races Boonen needs, if only he doesn't need Tour (but looking at the course of Copenhagen circuit his main goals for 2011 will be spring campaign and Worlds).
Edit: Boonen at Omega Pharma? Nooo, it woud be a disaster. The end of great rivalry between two Belgian teams...

Vacansalei with Boonen:) That would be amazing. Would need to update my best team choice. Styjn, Tom for cobbles. Eze Ricardo for GTs. Borut for sprints. Then all those great breakaway guys for everything else.

Boonen + Gilbert = Gilbert wins Flanders.
Boonen + Cancellara = Cancellara wins Roubaix and Flanders.

Boonen + Devolder = Devolder wins Flanders again.

Either way, not good for Boonen.

I like Vacansoleil, but when I try to imagine Boonen there my brain is going to explode

My top 3 favorite classic cyclists:

1. Gilbert
2. Boonen
3. Cancellara(I know some people here think I hate him, but that's just because every discussion about Cancellara here either includes Tommeke or Gilbert!)

And Boonen has beaten both before in these races, so don't underestimate him. Cancellara had a great year this season and he may seem unbeatable, but don't forget Boonen also seemed unbeatable in 2005.

Yeah, I don't want to see Gilbert lose again in LBL. Change Cancellara with Boonen and I would've said the same thing.

I hope everyone fails at LBL next year except Gilbert =D

I'll be rooting for the underdog Cancellara at Lombardia(even though I never see him doing it next year). Gilbert already won it twice anyway.

There's however 3 other classic 'specialists' I really don't llike. You can take a guess which 3 they are if you want.

Just saying, it would be amazing if Cancellara, Boonen and Gilbert were in the same team :p

TORNADO ON THE RISE AGAIN ? for the ! time lost count

"has recovered and declares himself hereby ready for the 2011 season"

Knee
“It’s going very well now,” he said, “when I ride my bike it doesn’t bother me. In normal life it hurts now and then, people know that following surgery.”

“I went on holiday and that’s basically it, My legs are equal again,”

I meant that if any of those team combinations came to pass they would benefit the other cyclist more than Boonen.

If Cancellara, Gilbert, or Devolder--as Boonen's team mate--attacks in Flanders or PR, and Boonen is in the chase with the other favorites, no one will want to bring them back b/c Boonen will win the sprint. Devolder's already done it twice, and Cancellara benefited from it in PR this year without even being on the same team. Boonen on the stones is radioactive.

If Boonen and Cancellara were on the same team, you'd almost be guaranteed to win both Flanders and PR.

Ok, all this is purely hypotetical. But if Boonen himself wants to move, he should go to Katjoesha or Rabobank. Great cobble teams with high-class domestiques/low-class leaders and not a real sprinter to play out if Boonen finds his speed again...
(especially with Bresschels knee problems coming up)

Burghardt, Van Avermaet, Hincapie, Quinziato are good on the cobbles yes. Maybe you're right about BMC. That's a good start but 3 places to fill still (4 for PR since van Avermaet skips that one), who on BMC is good enough on the cobbles else?
