Same thing that's been happening for the last 100 years - it just gets televised and we hear about it as soon as it happens.

Agreed. This is bike racing just as it's always been.

Pretty sure that's Frederik Willems and not VDB2.

Not happy anyone was hurt, but glad it wasn't VDB2. I am really hoping he has a great tour.

Goddamn, it *was* Van den Broeck. This sucks.

It wasn't VDB2 but it seems he also got injured in the same crash that dropped Willems, he's the one that was out before for sure.

Is the standard of bike handling not what it used to be?

It's not. Have a look at how poor the guys are positioning themselves in relation to other guys in the bunch, especially when we get views from the on-bike cameras. Half wheeling, inability to hold straight lines, random switching of lines to cut people off.

And VDB. Terrible crash. Really hate how crashes alters the outcome of these races, but unfortunately they are a part of racing. :(

VDB2 now in another fall?

Yes, the guy on the road in the first crash was definitely Willems.
This also doesn't look good though.

JVDB abandon.
