Passage on the Boyard

Rodriguez first at col Bayard
Result at col Bayard:

1. Joaquim Rodriguez, 5 points

2. Jakob Fuglsang, 3

3. Thibaut Pinot, 2

Going to be a good battle between Rodriguez, Fuglsang, Bardet, Pinot and Pauwels.

Bardet should save eneergy, let the others tire themselves out chasing KOM point then go the stage win...

If Bardet really had a hunger knock yesterday, like he said after the finish, he will have a hard time in following the best from the break. You always have to recover from that.

Thanks, I'd missed he said that. Hopefully the fact he's in the break is a sign he's feeling good though...

Lotto-Jumbo again with no rider in the break

Such a pathetic team.

The thing is that they shouldve send Ten Dam en Kelderman home a week ago.
Ten dam dislocated shoulder, recovered pretty well in the pyrennees so he got hope to ride aggresive in the Alps, but is suffering from severe bronchitis since they finished plateau de beille.
Kelderman his back painful, but at some point he could manage, but then he also got sick again.

Just send them home and tell them to prepare for the Vuelta as this is useless.

Kruijswijk will probably attack again tomorrow and the others besides Gesink are domestiques.

Agree on Ten Dam and Kelderman. But someone like Martens could be in the break. Or Tankink. Why Gesink needs 5 domestiques? He just has to follow the best GC guys on Glandon.

No rider in a break of 29 is poor imo.

Tankink is right now the only one that is able to stay with Gesink for a while actually.

Martens is a rider with no purpose, besides finishing in top 10s. Get rid of him.

Nico Verhoeven is about as bright as the chair i'm currently looking at. No point in wondering about LottoNL tactics.

So is anyone going to give Giant *** chasing the break, helping sky, protecting Barguil's top 10 place like you all did Movistar?

Protecting the top french rider status

Yep, let's cut him some slack, he is the only French who has not disappointed so far in this awful Tour (except for Gallopin to a lesser extent).

While it sucks that teams now defend top ten positions, people are going to be angered by teams not trying to win.

So, no Sky riders in the break.
Is it too much to expect something before Glandon?

Edit:
Too far away, I'm afraid.

Well that was the goal that Barguil wanted at the beginning of the Tour. And it would be the first time that Giant finished in the top-10 of the Tour.

Movistar tried to protect something they have achieved several times in the past. Quintana was second two years ago and won the white jersey. For what purposes should he want to repeat the same instead of trying big to win the Tour?

i think the main difference is Giant is a team where 10th place in TdF is an achievement, same for Barguil himself...on the other hand Movistar, valverde and quintana - nobody cares they will be on the podium, its a failure and because of their defensive style of racing the failure is magnified 10x

It's ridiculous - you get as many UCI World Tour points for finishing ninth as you do for winning three stages.

Two different situations tactically. If Barguil were to attack, I doubt Sky would care since he isn't much of a threat to the maillot jaune. If Movistar is to be believed, they are still fighting for the maillot jaune, but their actions yesterday looks like a team trying to defend their podium positions. Tactically I thought the smarter move was to either attack WITH Contador or force Sky to chase (even if you sacrifice Valverde's top 3 position) and put pressure on Sky to chase (and thereby burn up G and others). Instead they ride down Contador and end up with a fresh Froome at the end of the stage netting zero gain for the day. Froome is too strong to think a one off attack is going to work IMO

Sky had two men up the road to act as anchors if that happened.
