useless stage for GC (final 27 km flat...meh)

good entertainment due to attacks and improvisation

Useless stage for GC? I must have imagined Landa and Quintana gaining 2 mins on everyone and getting back into the fight somewhat.

Amazing stage, broken up from the get go. Attacks all over. More please. I want Martin back in the GC fight proper too. :D

Love to hear the Sky PR spin on today's stage, before it's spun....
Chasing your own teammate up the road is da marginal gain. First, it motivates him and second produces a series of micro warp air displacing waves that save 1-2 Watts for both the escaper and the chaser.

Sky were absolutely useless today towards the end of the stage. If they hadn't worked so much I have little doubt Landa would be in yellow, or at least 30 seconds nearer

I'll take me one of this short stages over an "epic" 200km mountain stage any day.

Yeah, it's great isn't it...maybe not for the riders, but for us punters, it's great viewing.

Probably Froome and DB don't want Landa to take yellow.

this Mike Landa seems to be a bit of a sillybugger, doesn't he?
I mean he is great in animating a race, ok, but useless as a helper and not coolheaded enough to win stages (out of a group) ....

There's elongated holiday weekend in France, ASO's offering a nice entertainment.
France, alone, is a huge market especially these days.

Landa - ignoring captains since 2015

??? Seems clearly to be the Sky plan...

The plan was to chase Landa? No way José. Me thinks Landa was doing Landa and riding for himself which clearly pissed Froome who chased his own teammate. This might piss Landa off doing something animalistic further down.

If it was a plan it was the worst i've ever seen.

I thought that was a very good ride from Aru today on the whole.

Not easy when your entire team is blown out by the first climb and you're still not that experienced with having to defend as a leader.

Louis Meintjes.

The sport you do professionally is better off without you.
What did he do?

He used his teammates to help him finish as high as he can in GC.
Oh if it was one of those making the stage boring in order to save a 10th place on gc then im all with the haters and hope he cracks soon

As much as I'd like to believe Landa was Landa'ing it up for the lulz... I don't think Froome was chasing him. Froome was trying to drop his rivals and go up the road with Kwiatkowski, at a time when it was obvious that Landa wasn't going to get in yellow anyway. The objective of getting Landa back in the GC race to put extra pressure on Aru and Bardet was already going to be achieved no matter what.

Surely a great stage but kinda useless at the end. The winner is great for france but kinda the most unspectacular option with these four riders. And for the gc this turned out very irrelevant. I'd say that although I think sky didn't ride a very clever race, froome was one of the big winners of the stage

His teammates were chasing the attackers and the on the final part he was leading the maillot jaune group. So yeah, he rode to save a 10th place on GC.
