I always thought that these breakaway attempts somehow have to be fruitful to justify the super combative award given to a rider. Thats why I agreed with Bardet getting it, back in 2015 since De Gendts so called aggressiveness was primarily pointless. Plus Sagan got the green jersey already.
This year though De Gendt certainly has made a whole lot of moves. Yes, some were pointless and mainly for collecting breakaway miles. But he also pulled the breakaway groups, gapped his opponents, bridged over etc. Always was one of the most active riders in the groups he entered. As much as I like giving the award to someone like Barilla who actually produced something significant with his aggressiveness, I think Rasmussen is fully correct. I can understand the decision for Barguil. It's even legitimate somehow. Eventually it still ain't fair. It's a pr vote. Nothing else.
Edith recommends De Gendt should go for the Intergiro classification in 2018!
