So Lopez team looks prepared for the coming tasks. Also Landa´s team still is not that weak, although the early failure from Valls and the crashed Poels.

Ineos and Jumbo only with their two top riders in the first group. Ok others (Kuss, Bennett, Van Aert, Kwiatkowski) had to work or give leaders a bike, but I had still expect them in the first group.

Until now it doesn´t look like there is a much stronger team then the others, which normally leads to interesting racing.

The excitement of watching Richie is derived from how passive he is in GTs. So passive in fact, that he HAS to do something at some point and surprise us all, right?

To be fair to Richie, something has usually gone wrong for him in a GT before he MIGHT have done something. That, or his one week form has been his peak form, and so he is able to attack in those races, whereas in GT's, he is genuinely just holding on (at best).

To be less fair to Richie, in the 2016 TDF he was firmly entrenched inside the top 10, but didn't risk that in the final mountain stages with any sort of attack (though he wasn't dropped). So that was when he COULD have done something. Still, because of all of his previous mishaps, it probably made just merely finishing in the top ten, more important to him (to risk it). And that final mountain descent of 2016 was wet, and well, one thing that we can all agree on is that Porte is not Nibali.

Apparently, Perez and Cosnefroy were racing each other up the final climb, 15 minutes behind the favourites because they were tied on points, had each won a first category and finished second on a first category and were tied on time on GC. So Perez needed to get rid of Cosnefroy to get the better placing on GC (because Cosnefroy had placed better on stage 1) and get a day in the dots. But he was unsuccessful.

Didn’t Nibali crash on that descent? Or at least he got dropped out by (iirc) Izaguirre for the stage win after being together over the summit?

He was dropped by both Izaguirre and Pantano.
