What does “negative split this” mean?
Negative split is doing (eg) 49kmh for first ten, 50 for next 10, then 52 for last 10.

Strictly speaking, negative split not really possible here because course gets tougher. But, you negative split it in terms of watts I imagine. Basically it’s just holding something back to begin with so you have a bit more in the tank at the end of the race

if you increase the tempo from split to split, wouldn’t that be a “positive split”?
