One thing we shouldn't forget right now is that this sort of racing will probably tire the lightweight climbers a lot more than the bigger engines. Dumoulin might be one of the biggest winners of this stage so far we just haven't realized yet.

GC implications are difficult to judge, unless something catastrophic happens like a big name dropping out of the lead group for whatever reason. But yeah, some riders will feel this stage tomorrow for sure...

Coquard and Trentin are in the group, surely they can send a teammate or two because this is a good chance for them too

So... if the Sam Bennett group stops completely and is caught by the Ewan/Pedersen group, would that make that group the peloton, and the Sagan group the breakaway?

Best placed GC rider in the dropped groups is Pozzovivo at 2:42. So that's why the GC teams don't really have incentive to help Bora.

Sacrificing Jungels and Asgreen for just for Bennett is a very risky move. Alaphilippe needs those guys today.

Should have used Mørkov and/or Devenyns to help him instead.

No, generally the yellow jersey group or the GC favourites group is the peloton I'd say.
