I left the transmission at around the halfway point and was a bit surprised to see Bilbao and Zimmermann as one and two, considering how many big guns had been attacking today.

I think Skjelmose and Alaphilippe were the biggest losers when you look at how much energy they had invested in this stage from the start.

A good training for VDP. Only Glasgow matters.
At the time Dillier then MVDP started to contribute, it was JV that was trundling along on the front. Given the time gap to the front, the peloton was in serious danger of easing up. The teams of the GC guys Bilbao was passing didn't seem interested (oddly). The break could have started playing cat and mouse at any moment. But Alpecin wanted the front to stay on the gas. Ewan, Jakobsen and the autobus were far in arrears and this could have been a knockout blow for the green jersey fight if Alpecin could just keep the pace elevated. That's my theory anyway. Otherwise why was Dillier pulling?

It was a PB for the stage-winning the stage and moving from 11th to 5th in the gc. It looked in doubt for a while when Julian put out an APB on him but he evaded capture.
