I mean sprint stages having a purpose and then being on a weekend is very different.

You could easily have had the stage yesterday swapped with today or do the TT at the weekend instead. I'm sure the Tour aren't that stuck for towns wanting to host a start of finish that they need to have designed the route like this.

1) The first reason goes down the drain because nobody watches these stages. At least not intently.
2) There are fast buses now, no need for that.
3) Exactly, there should be no break for the riders. This is the ultimate endurance test. Why this nonsense.

3) If there aren't easier stages at some point, the riders will just wait out some of the hard ones in anticipation of the hard stages later on. Would cause much more break away wins though.

That being said, I also don't like pan flat stages that have zero obstacles in them. Sprints in themselves are exiting though IMO. Just the wait for them is usually boring, and if no one attacks for 100+k like today, it seems pretty pointless to race them.

I am Ok with that. It is part of the tactics. Maybe there is a team like VLAB that figures their best shot is to make every stage as hard as possible, so we never get an "easy" day. In any case I agree with your adjective, pretty pointless today.

If they wanted to add some excitement to the stage, TDF organization would allow Remco to transfer teams during this race, get it over with and give old and new team something to cheer about!! And then all attention would be on Melier and if he will do something. Do anything!!
If I hear Rolling Stones singing Jumping Jack Flash for Amazon one more time I am going to stick my finger in the light socket..

Good points, I personally wouldn't have known that France was full cows, grass and bunch of farmers taking time out from crop circles to stack bales into awesome overhead bicycle art designs!!
Bike racing has a responsibility to showcase dairy cows who are very very underappreciated!!
Sponsored by my coffee right now.

How much faster are buses now than they used to be?
Riding in a bus just sucks..the best thing about a bus is getting out of one!! Whenever I have to take a bus the company intentionally seats someone who has a bottle of cologne and stinky hair care products that smell like urinal cakes!!
Riding a bus is like a rolling prison!! No I don't want to see any pictures or video of your nephew!!

I don't think all sprint stages are boring and I definitely like having them.
Also, it is sometimes actually nice to have less eventful stages. I know some find that boring and I am definitely not in majority in this - but I like (sometimes) to just look at the scenery, listen to the commentary about history of the region etc.

That said, having these two stages on a weekend after limited excitement is a bit too much.

I am just complaining because I trimmed an orange and lemon tree yesterday and my arms, neck and face are scratched up , looks like I got into a wrestling match with a wolverine!!
If I wanted to see corn fields and what rural rubes consider entertainment I would go down to feed store or Tractor Supply.. Race already!!! Stop F-ing around!! If a rouge cow attacks these Total Energies guys I will be happy!! Where is some rabies or mad cow disease when you want it!!?

We have to get into the mountains before we get goats (other kind) trying to take out riders.
