Starting in Spain means that the Pyrenees come early, so they didn't make them very tough, to prevent an all too early decision - although stage 6 shouldn't be underestimated. It also means that there are no stages in northern France. Some of the sprinters might decide to stay at home. For specialists of the classics stage 2 looks like an opportunity.

This year there were five tough MTFs. Next year the toughest MTFs are the Col de Solaison and L'Alpe d'Huez. This is however a Tour with lots of climbing, but the toughest climbs are further from the finish. This invites GC riders to attack before the final climb. The organizers are hoping that the gaps won't get too big in the first two weeks, so the suspense remains until the queen stage on the penultimate day. We'll see how that works out.

I hope Remco doesn't do the Tour. He is a star rider and shouldn't be forced to only 'participate' for the sponsors.
Full focus and all in for the Giro and Vuelta.

He still could be a valuable support to Lipowitz in the Tour. If he is ready mentally for it.

It would stand to reason it's both things of course. They also mention his Olympic successes. But the above seems a fairly clear statement of why they hired him. Does that mean the Tour exactly? Open to interpretation, as they mention Grand Tours. But they seem to specifically call out Le Tour. So I'm not saying you're wrong, but...hard to image the Tour isn't a lot of it.

I don't think you can get stage 20 as it is without stage 19. I think it's a good bundle, even if it would necessarily squash stage 18. Say the alternative is a better stage 18, breakaway stage on 19, and then stage 20 finishes with the traditional ascent of Alpe d'Huez.

A worse route than 2024 and 2025. One positive aspect is that apart from the second weekend, the rest of weekend stages should be interesting but this just feels like a watered down and backloaded route without enough hard stages for a Grand Tour. Also, despite being a backloaded route if everything goes according to plan, Pogačar is going to decide the race on stages 14-15 like he did on 2024. The lack of a flat TT is also very disappointing, a GT should always have one of those. Glad to have L'Alpe d'Huez back though and stage 2 is a nice hilly stage.

Well normal Alpe d' Huez is by no means a bad MTF, and its absolutely great for spectators, especially when they are doing it twice. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

I hoped stage 5 and 17 would be a bit harder, but its possible that we will see some action into Pau and stage 17 might just be a break anyways. Only 4 really pure sprint stages

I really, really like the opening 6 days, and I like the fact that there are lots of opportunies for the break which the Tour has lacked recently.

Pogacar is not a fresh w/kg specialist as his most supreme performances have been at the end of hard efforts that have destroyed everyone else.

Roglic is a much better example of a fresh w/kg specialist and it is not a contradiction to say that even in those efforts Pogacar is still very clearly a lot better than Roglic.

To be honest he didn't have much opportunity to show he is or he is not...

And what kind of performance you think he is not able to execute which would prove he is not a fresh w/kg specialist ?

I suppose you might have been joking about the TDF route but I also assume there are proper climbs in the 2026 Giro parcours?

I tend to think 2025 TDF Remco was an anomaly and we are more likely to see 2024 TdF climbing Remco again in 2026.

Looking at the profile, seems not really a MTF that side, but preceded by three very tough climbs of Télégraphe/Galibier, Croix de Fer and Sarenne so that would be a completely different way to arrive at the Alpe.

Of course Vingegaard is the man to beat. But with some more TTs in the Giro Evenepoel will have much better chances than in the Tour.

If Vingegaard is there, his chances are probably around 15%. These 15% are explained by potential crashes and Vingegaard never crashed out from a GT.

According to the forum, Remco is the third best GT rider right now (almost tied with Almeida though) so without Almeida in the TdF as a contender, he is clearly the third favorite to win the Tour. So 4th on GC at best seems pessimistic.

Stage 18, finishing on Orcières-Merlette, that is something for Rogla to underline, as his last Tour stage victory dates all the way back to the Tour 2020 edition, on where he outsprinted Pogi on this climb.

There are some pointy stages, at the very end, at this Tour edition and that should be favourable too.

Probably the most interesting mountain stage to me, as I've never seen that approach. Looks like a really tough day out. I can see not calling it a MTF given the...I guess..."rolling" road after the last col, but it looks like one super punchy climb at the end going into town.

Gonna be destruction.

Thanks for that. Hard to see that punchy final in the race profile. Also hard to see Pogacar being beaten there, maybe Jonas can rediscover his miraculous recovery powers late in the 3rd week.
