Well, the last 30 guys can still win the race, so if the wind picks up a bit toward the afternoon (like last year) it can be a very determining factor.

A certain team might not be so happy to have all 4 of their GC guys starting in the last 20 minutes ;)

That's a bit silly, don't they usually split them up and have some go off early ? Or they get the option ?

As far as Im aware they only can switch around before there are any GC placing eg prologues.

I guess that Mollema and Rogers may be switched around to separate out teammates though

Nope - in prologues they automatically start out spaced by the number of teams.

In a genuine GC situation like today they will rearrange to ensure Rabo have enough DS / cars, and to prevent the appearance of drafting opportunities.

Maybe Rabo can borrow Vacansoleil's cars, they're all way down on GC.

Hmmm fair cop.

Certainly not something that only occurs in prologues however - by definition no one on the same team is near a teammate anyway.

No - you said they only rearrange when there is no GC.

I said that for a prologue, before there is no GC, they start with teams auto-spaced. That is standard procedure, not rearranging.

In later situations with a GC established they then often will rearrange, however not today it seems.

Oh. You are wrong then.

It is common practice for teams to swap around teammates in prologues if their is dodgy weather around.

Yes, WITHIN THE TEAM SLOTS.

I said absolutely nothing about which member of the team goes where, merely that the teams are auto-spaced.

Really not sure what you're getting at here.

You started by saying that start orders are only rearranged in prologues, not when a GC is established.

I said that they are rearranged when a GC is established on some occasions. They are not rearranged for a prologue as teams are auto spaced.

You then decided to interpret that as saying that specific riders are locked down to slots for a prologue. I just made clear that was not what I said or think.

You then asked why I ascribed those views to you. I have not.

Are we all good now?

Actually I've not seen that happen very often.

I vaguely recall Wiggins doing it I think but I can't remember which race. But it is rare. It's a risk because sometimes it's the better riders that get the wind advantage and weather forecasts are pretty vatriable.

Could you try and be a bit more condescending please I couldn't quite understand you.

I say that riders can switch on prologues, you say 'nope'. Do you not think that that might be where things get confused?

I was saying nope to your suggestion that that was the only situation they could 'switch'. I would argue they are not switching at all, given there is no established order at that point.

I apologise if any offense was caused.

Yeh maybe with a MTT but its not a mountain TT is it?
My point is that he will perform better than his climbing would suggest (not spectacular as some people seem to think) as he will have an advantage over other riders in that he is a superior time triallist so he has a better position etc

today is a mountain itt

Getting back on topic, what is the weather forecast? Think that Sky will be OK either way given that Porte will be starting over an hour back but is less than 40seconds down on GC

And in cases where it is rearranged, it is only by one or two slots. Romandie don't seem to bother with that though - see all the Rabos together and three Astana riders starting in a row.
