Yeah I'm not so sure a 3rd place in a shorter time trial in a race four rungs below this one six years ago gives me a great amount of faith in Brutt's ITT skills, but thanks for that nugget of information anyway Ryo.

instead of staring yourself blind on the status of a race, look at the guy who finished 3 places behind Brutt there. Stef Clement, good enough for 3rd at the World ITT few years ago (and now eternally ****ed because of injuries)
Yes. As an amateur. Doesn't mean much (unless you're saying Juan José Abril is a good time-trialist?)

The onus is on them to keep the time gap in check. They actually did reduce the time gap a fair bit. Watch the race troll!

Why would Euskatel want to relinquish the lead like that?

They won a stage which is probably all they hoped to do. If a team's goal is to win the overall, which it definitely was not Euskaltel's, then some other team should've stepped up and tried to reel in the break to protect their interests, as your precious BMC attempted to do, although unsuccessfully.
Euskaltel has to be stretched thin this year with participation in all 3 grand tours and interests especially in the Tour for Samu and the Vuelta (for Anton) with its decades long awaited return to the Basque country. Romandie can't be worthy of wearing their Giro team out chasing a break when their ultimate goal in Romandie is already met. Anton has ambitions of a stage win or better in the Giro depending on how he rides into the 3rd week.

So, epicfailbmc.;)

Brutt is by no means a horrible time trialist and he will of course be very motivated if he is still wearing the leader's jersey on Saturday, but he's going to lose at least 30 seconds to the specialists and probably more.

I don't understand why a team is supposed to do the work if they have a guy placed 0 seconds in front of the #2 and expected to be dropped.

That's why I also liked the move by Floyd Landis. Do the unexpected, don't always stick to normal procedures.

I didn't expect them to chase all day but similarly I didn't expect them to do literally nothing.

But in the end it wasn't their fault that the break finished ahead as 150 km is enough to chase down 4 people even if 1 team doesn't want to.

The Circuito Montañés is practically an amateur race though.

yeah about the biggest in the world, won by riders like gesink and duarte. besides amateurracing in spain should not be taken lightly as they are all professional teams with biggers budgets than pretty much any ct team, same in italy.

he was one of spains biggest talents yes but he retired before "turning pro". if you have no clue about what you are talking then don't bother to discuss it. look any results brutt had as an amateur until 2006 he rode excellent itt's and if you think he sucks now fine, believe that then.

Everyone seems to be one of the biggest talents for you. Anyway, my point is that here and now the results of the Circuito Montañés six years ago are meaningless.
