No. Almeida lost time yesterday due to his bad positioning.

Bjerg's complaint is because they wanted to win with Morgado today stage.
Almeida's situation in GC has nothing to do with that.

I disagree. Ineos/Sky used to do it. Visma does it. Both teams managed to get the talents to also ride for their team members.

They both have/had a very different approach to UAE. Ineos at their peak would have a handful of 'ambitious' riders, no more. Their 2015/2016 team had Froome, Kwiat, Viviani, Porte, Landa, and then lots of workhorses (a couple of slight wildcards like Henao and Nieve). Visma are similar in that they are careful in avoiding too many very talented and therefore very ambitious riders – they have excellent ones who are happy to work. The one time they had too many, they shipped Roglic.

They don't stock up on wonderkids in the way UAE do - Almeida, Christen, Ayuso, Morgado, Del Toro, and soon Torres. None of these guys are natural or proven domestiques, they all want to win for themselves. Sky/Ineos rarely went for wonderkids for that exact reason: they're ambitious. It is very hard to stock up on riders who either burst out into the stage at an early age or who dominated junior races without having this sort of ego clash.

I watched whatever downhill was on Eurosport and the drones perfectly captured a rider.

I bet it's harder when there's hundreds of riders riding together than for example following a smaller breakaway?

I want drones. Preferably one drones for every rider and then you can buy an extra service to follow your favourite rider directly with his special drone 🤣

I would say only when they can provide the same resolution on our screens. Shots from the helis are usually better, but of course you usually only have 2 available.

We can blame it on a lot of stuff, but not on positioning.

He had a gap until about 300 meters what should he do? At that point you can either sit up and drift back or keep on sprinting and hope for the best. I have seen him pull that off before.

And that's not only a matter of ego.
It's a matter of money as well. Most of these guys will have incentives in their contracts in case they win or podium races. And even in case they don't have incentives they fully know their next contracts will depend on how they perform now. The moment they settle for a domestique role in such an overcrowded team they're bound to be domestiques for years (at least in WT races).

In most cases the riders Ineos and Visma signed as domestiques got the most lucrative contract of their whole career (thinking about you, Diego Rosa). And that's part of the reason they were happy to work. Not the case for these young super talents.

At the end of the day there were about five teams with CG ambitions who failed to control the break on stage five. You seem to always blame UAE riders for being less than perfect.
