Almeida was descending crazy good this year I think? If there isn’t cooperation in G2 it could be some minutes he get back already today.
Yes very good in Basque, I think Onley/Gall need to wait for O'Connor and Vauquelin and not let Gall on the front on the descent.

It was a good call not to wait on anyone. 40”, making the race hard so the chasers are less fresh. But some riders will go hard to hold Gregoire behind.

This gap is very dependent on the nature of this descent, I think. If it's a pedalling descent it's not great for Almeida. The profile looks mostly steep enough to have a lot of bends at least.

Group 2 syndrome may have a bigger impact than that.
I think João is counting on that.
