Max/Vino Kazak Attack!!

taiwan said:
Apart from the mountains classement in the Tour de Suisse, I don't see that much form in the hills. 8th at a GP Plouay? All I knew about him before was that he got third in the E3 Prijs Vlaanderen behind Boonen and Pozzato, so I've learnt something.

How about Max's attack on the final climb stage 6, 2007 Dauphine Libere?

16:53 CEST 188km/10km to go
Calzati and Vino ride together.
Piepoli is also in the front group.
Maxim Iglinsky attacks and gaps his companions.

17:03 CEST
Contador attacks out of the small yellow jersey group!!!

17:06 CEST 190km/8km to go
Iglinsky is still in the front and will likely take the stage.

17:09 CEST 192km/6km to go
Iglinsky's face is now showing sign of his efforts. He will have to pedal for another six kilometres.

17:16 CEST 196km/2km to go
Iglinsky is flying down the mountain. Only a crash can stop him now.

17:17 CEST
Iglinsky smiles down the finishing straight and shows his Astana jersey to the spectators! Chapeau!

This stage finished over an hour later than projected.
Some days bike racing probably feel like a lousy way to make a living.

I have relatives in the hills above Peymeinade - they were snowed in yesterday, stage 4 is not going very high but even so think it will be very cold.

I could not race in those conditions. Anything below about 5 degrees C I have to wear a mask and with nothing above mid-level 3 to protect my lungs. Anything below freezing, even with a face mask, forget it. My lungs are far too sensitive for that. I don't know how they do it. Chapeau to them even for taking part.

Valverde and Vino went on the attack. Let's hope they do the same on Mt Faron.

Wine lost 7 seconds on Valverde today. And I'm just going to put it out there: WTF is going on with Allan Davis (36 minutes back)? He can't blame it on the radios this time around. I'm guessing that Lefevere is pretty happy so far with how things worked out.

Btw, I expect Valverde to win the overall.

Didn't we already establish last month that he's a fat bastard?

Looks like Vino is back. The Giro should be very interesting.

For some reason I was expecting that he was a professional and actively working to get himself back into racing form. Apparently that form is going to be a long time coming. Perhaps 2011. :p:D

And yes, the Giro should be very interesting.

He asid he wanted to peak for the worlds and San remo. If he's wanting to peak for MSR well he better get his **** back into shape. Tomolaris or Davis himself can't blame it on Radios as obviously his form isn't up to it. I personally don't think he would done much in Down under this year with the form he had last year due to the toughness of race increasing. Davis could win a few of the harder stages at the giro and/or even the tour but the way he's going he looks like a d grade rider!

Vino told us un astanafans that he was impressed with Valverde's form, and Vino has a doubt that somebody can fight with Alejandro on Mt Faron.

Thanks. I hope Vino gives it a go nonetheless.

So what's the story on Proskurin? I saw that he resigned over a disagreement, but has there been any indication of what the disagreement was about?

News flash: today's stage was supposed to finish in Biot, but apparently the local authorities won't allow that. So while the race is already underway, organizers are looking for a place to draw the finish line.
Man, this race is badly organized.

A race in search of a finish line...:eek::eek: Wow. How does something like that even happen?

El Fares wins in a breakaway. The race was also stopped twice, the jury will probably give everybody the same finish time.

Absolutely appalling weather led to the race being annulled, not a 'search for a finish line' - leave that kind of stupidity to the ToC - a race in search of a mountain top finish line

Nice to see El Fares back to winning ways and with beaucoup de panache out in the break all day

With the problem of the cold weather for the tour Mediterraneen i bet the Tour down under/tour qatar/tour oman all seem like good destinations for bike races right now........................
