So unless someone can get a good gap in the first 4km, no one will be able to solo away in the last 2km. if someone tries to attack, they can be brought back unless they are a power rider like Kwiatkowki/Wiggins. So chances are it will go down to a group of maybe 3-5 of the GC guys so someone with a good sprint will win.

I can't see past Kwiatkowski then.

As always with these type of finishes, it all boils down to what the riders do before the last climb. Does the parcours offer opportunities along the way? Racing too easy to control for the top teams?

The first part of the route today looks promising when we have 6 man teams, but will we get a solid group up the road or just two local guys?

That could be the difference between getting a typical uphill sprint or serious racing imo.

For those not familiar with the final climb of the tumble:

http://postimage.org/

First 4km's are quite tough but it does flatten out near the top to just 5%

The final 2kms are nowhere near as steep as the preceding three, but they are uneven, so that 5% is misleading. There are a couple of 7-8% sections. They last coming just before the finish.

There is also a pinch point (canal bridge) just before they hit the steep section, which comes off a 120 degree turn, so this should be frenetic. The won't be able to carry max speed into the climb.

Last time the big boys climbed up was in the 2009 nationals.
Wiggins and Miller first up alone, followed by a very small group including.............Cav.
However, it was very early on in the race and the rest were scattered to the four winds.
In all honesty, I don't know what to expect, but I'd guess a few riders with a few seconds of separation.

that was a surprisingly good stage yesterday. The last 10km or so were great fun, particularly the descent. Nice win for Renshaw - took me a bit by surprise I must admit. Looking forward to today's stage - will be interesting to see whether Wiggo has a go. I'd like to see a battle between the potential GC guys, but we'll see.

Could go either way, Swifty could be up there in a group of 15-20 and win the sprint or a guy like Chavanel could get away and stay away. Depends on the wind and how they ride I guess.

ToB site has a live ticker, and their twitter account is updating pretty regularly.

Very true; he's a quite ridiculous human being and is best to be ignored as most people do.

Lighten up Ryo. I'm often at work too and check in here every once in a while. Not for chatting, but for race updates. Not every 5 minutes, but maybe every hour. And the exciting finish I will watch later at home. It's not like I (or grizzlee for that matter) aren't doing our job properly.
