Yeah, Wenzel is just horrible. I think I prefer him over Liniger though. Here's a ranking just off the top of my head, may have forgotten a few commentators:

1. Holm
2. Ritter
3. Chris Anker
4. Rolf
5. Bay
6. Leth
7. Frost
8. Nygaard
9. Leif Mortensen
10. Staghøj
11. Wenzel
12. Liniger

I'm going to Aalborg today to see the race. I don't k ow the city, so where on the route should I stand and see the race?
Either on Skydebanevej (the finish) or Skovbakkevej, the first road on the left hand from Hasseris. Climbed it today, pretty tough and nice climb. I will be on the finish.

I meet Van Aert today and got a chance to totally fanboy over him. He seemed kinda introvert and quiet. Told him he would win Flanders next year and he just laughed. :D Here a picture of him and me.

Wout talked with Vanspeybrouck when I approached him. Super funny dude that took the picture of me and Wout but decided to troll me and took a few selfies. Wout said Pieter was in many breaks in Austria and Pieter said he hopes to make a good result tomorrow because he is a good puncheur.

Cool! :)

I was standing at Skovbakkevej yesterday as well, and besides being able to see the riders up close three times I mostly enjoyed looking out for Guardini and watching him almost pedal backwards up the small hill. That guy seriously can't climb!
Also nice to see some of the dropped riders let their hair hang loose (quite litterally, when Shane Archbold decided to sway his hair the last time up), and particularly last-placed Jeremy Lecroq, who decided to do a wheelie up the hill to thank for the great support still left for him.

That's one of the cool things about standing there at the "muurs" - you see the not-so-strong riders have a hard time on the climbs. :)

I don't know how much sense it makes to mix commentators and experts. You can't really compare Leth to Liniger for instance - they have completely different roles.

Having said that, I agree that Liniger is a bit too general when he talks about the race, and he often misses important moments, such as interesting climbs.

What annoys me the most about Liniger is his over entusiastic way of commentating. He almost screams half the time.

Race must be pretty boring if most of this thread discusses commentators.
Is Quaade still a good TTer? He's currently not far behind WVA.

Should definitely have put Bay higher than Rolf and Chris actually. I think Worre is in the middle of the pack, he is quite good.

I don't get the hatred of Wenzel either.
Nor Liniger for that matter, but I haven't really seen much racing commented by him (not including radio commentating for the Tour.)

Well toby said it really well.

His voice is by far the worst commentator voice across every sport.

When he explains some of his weird thoughts, you just shake your head in disbelief

You dont seem to have any demands for a commentator. Can you name me one you dont like, in any sport?

I've never noticed anything particular about Wenzel's voice…
And weirdness is good!

---

Hurom wanna play!
What the *** is team Hurom?

---

Seriously, does this race have a lot of first-time cycling viewers?
- People asking about sticky bottles.
- Frost feeling the need to explain why the team cars were going past the peloton to reach the breakaway.
Aren't those things basic knowledge in cycling?

Don't understand how some of you guys come up with this.

Some of the commentators on the list, are excellent at noticing the little things in races, that make all the difference, like when someone is making ready for an attack, when a team is changing tactics during a stage, the battle for position leading into an important part of the course, etc. - They can usually also identify riders fast, even from overheads, by stature and riding style alone.

The rest usually have to wait for radio tour to tell them what is going on - or for TV production to do it for them - and then commentate of the obvious stuff, like telling us what the signs production puts up is telling us.

That you guys rank for instance Frost high is laughable..... I mean, nice guy and everything, but as a commentator he sucks.

For instance yesterday, when Chris Anker was alone in front, you see Mads Petersen (captain of the danish team at this race), break rank and move up besides his 3 team mates pulling the peloton.... he gives an order..... and the tempo is increased drastically, and in that moment, the break is doomed.

Meanwhile, while we all watch this going on, Frost says nothing, he just watches it, then keeps talking about Chris Anker being great at maintaining the gap to the peloton, and that he may have a chance.

To rank him second is simply not on :D

Rolf Soerensen is head and shoulds above everyone else as a commentator, he sees things before anyone else.

Nygaard, Anker and Ritter are pretty good too.... the rest, not so much :)

His ability to identify riders by a zoom of their chain is impressive. :p

Well... That's just like your opinion man.
Maybe we value something different than you in the commentary

Third in the nationals and is supposed to focus more on time trials this year so hopefully yes.

Is he calling this a TTT?

Sadly, I hit my mute button and can't find my remote again...

No but he's talking nonsense about how Mads P and Lennard Kämna was, respectively, 8th and 5th in the Tirreno ITT. Those are the TTT results of the race

Why is Van Aert not wearing the leaders jersey?

Perhaps he couldn't get it as a skin suit. But he can't be allowed not to wear it, surely?
