Lol!

AS for editing, yes we can see the times, but why should we make our lives any more complicated than they already are? The rules clearly state NO EDITING.

Susan

We need to have a cyclingnews forum referendum vote on this subject! I vote yes for a change of rule with the editing!

How many people actually picked the winning trio properly? I think i counted about 5 or 6.

Maybe we are getting better at this game? Although the fact that so many people chose a pick that was already taken still proves that we aren't the sharpest tools in the shed:rolleyes:

There were very few possibilities left with 10 k to go. We knew that Cancellara would win, Boonen was very likely for second and there was a chase group for third consisting of Loukeman (sp) and Gilbert, I think Millar had already been dropped by then.

How about we compromise on a signed photo of Kitty?

And a vote on changing the rules? You think this is a democracy?

Susan

The closing time for votes should be before the start of the race, it's the fairest way, much harder to call.

To sort this out for major races with big prize we need better rules that this and so the results arent clear while results are being taken. I propose

1. Entries in by midday on the day of the race, with a post on the main cyclingnews website alerting people to the competition so entries get made in good time.

2. No editting. If you edit you are disqualified no questions or complaint. If you want to edit you remove all your text and then repost in the correct chronolgical place on the thread. (Or could mods get a delete option to make this easier)

3. Winner is earlies person with correct 3 posts. If noone guesses the correct order before 12, the first person with all 3 podium riders wins no matter the order. If noone has that the prize is rolled over.

One thing - 12 CET is like 7am on the East of the United States! So it would put the American posters at a disadvantage.

Maybe close it at 50km to go - which in most races is 15.00 CET, or 10.00EDT as most people interested in the race will be 'tuned in' by then.

Agree with your other points though - although you are able to delete posts in the 'edit' feature.

rules on posting editing seem fair, first correct wins seems fair. If you edit a post disqualified. I like the last 10km rule, we can watch and make new guesses for the unexpected results ie a breakaway staying away and your earlier favourites pick is gone. I'd say guess all the way to the line, but i like the possibility of noone winning.
Just advertise when the comp will open and stick to it. So open the post and say entries will be accepted from...entries before that get deleted.

Carols is our winner! Congratulations!

By the way, did you get to see the new Pozzato advertisement for Sidi Shoes? It's, um, quite an eye opener! We get to see ALL of Pozzato except for where he is holding those shoes.......

Susan

Totally cool :) My first competition and I'm a winner!! How do I claim my prize??

I just saw the race, what a Ride by Spartacus!!!

but by 10km to go someone should have picked the right combo.

Someone had, long before actually. Personally I went for Cancellara, Boonen, Millar because Millar hadn't been dropped then and Gilbert for 3rd was already taken.

I was picking 12 CET to stop it being a pick the winner by watching the race unfold. I find it much more fun if you have to guess whats going to happen before the race begins. Its not that hard to guess the top 3 in most of the big races theres normally only a handful of guys who realistically likely to be there.

I'll send some tweets, but if a mod happens by, the article about the competition has a link to this Flanders thread, and people think they're entering the Paris-Roubaix competition.
