Nah, his best GT (GC) was deffo in AG2R (yes, pre-Decathlon, but still). It's either TdF 2021 or Vuelta 2024. Both achieved in a similar fashion.
But he used to be rather consistent in 5-7 day races IIRC

Yeah, I meant the 2021 Tour. I think it was more impressive than his Vuelta, if only because it's the Tour. But I also think the Vuelta was more conditioned by the break as he ended up with a 5 minute lead, rather than being 2nd a fair chunk behind Pogi. He had a real leader's boost.

I said pre-Decathlon as the insinuation was that Decathlon AG2R perform at a really high level - like the UAE or Visma drop-off. I don't think it's anything close to that tbh

His best single-stage performance was probably his stage win on Col de la Loze last year in the Tour or Solaison in the 2022 Dauphine. In terms of GC I would rate his 2024 Vuelta higher than the 2021 Tour.

O'Connor has certainly forgotten to impove his watts like some the other riders since 2024 (even though that was his best year results-wise).

My view is that O'Connor was signed by Jayco as a GC rider and he has failed in every regard. Unless he finishes top 5 or top 6 at the Giro then you move him on and try to develop a young GC rider like a Nordhagen type. I'll also add if you are going to pay 2 million would you rather O'Connor or Schmid.

He wasn't gifted time he was just super strong on thta day. You have to remember the first 9 days of the 2024 Vuelta were run in stifling conditions and there were some strange results. I'll also add that even when out of form O'Connor always has produced one or two quality performances per year. I'll also add the team is not bringing him to LBL which says something about the teams expectations.

He was definitely gifted some time but yes, he was really strong that day.

Graphic says the first climb earlier in the stage is 22.4km at 5.7%? But agree a breakaway win is the obvious outcome.

Hofmahdjoch/ Passo Castrin is a real Cat 1, with 1300 vertical meter difference and a 7k at 9% section, so it may influence which riders get into the breakaway in the first place. After that it should be possible for a lot of riders in this Field to win.

Nice win for Pellizzari and Red Bull who seem to be the strongest team in the race.
Pozzovivo showing he's still got some decent form but Pidcock coming in nearly 7 minutes down does not bode well for his fans. Young Pogi clone Omrzel hanging in there too.
