lol giant and their americans. has ANY of them so far done anything good? where is peterson? lol

Well, two of the three are neo-pros but they both had solid 1st years, imo. 8 individual top 10s between the two, though most were TTs. Nothing too spectacular, but Craddock did finish 3rd on GC at ToC.

But yeah, Peterson just isn't that talented.

Peterson is leaving the team this year.

And Craddock looks good talent, solid results this year.

Ruben Plaza signs with Lampre.

Solid dom, slowly but surely past his prime though. We'll see if he can still support Costa & co.

Thanks for six years and all the best, Ruben! :)
Well, that's cool. I was almost certain it would be OFM-Valongo or Efapel for him. He has never been the same since his brutal leg break in 2011 and was at the point of being one of the more expendable guys if they were trying to trim their roster. At 34 he isn't getting any younger, so nice to see he'll have another year at the top level.

They are 26 now and I'm pretty sure they want to keep Gutiérrez as well. 27 riders again.

I'd like to think they'd keep him, but he hasn't had many race days this year.
Can you see Guti riding for anybody but Unzué? I mean, he's been with him for over a decade. Granted, it's not like Lastras or Txente García, but I would find it really weird if they didn't re-up him and he signed elsewhere. I am absolutely certain that Lastras, like Txente, will retire with Abarcá and take a staff role there straight away.

Ordinarily, no I couldn't. But he's going to finish the year with the fewest race days of anyone on the team, and without having major injury to explain the time off the bike.

The last two times he rode the Tour he DNFed. The first was in the Metz "massacre" and the second was the day when he and Noval were on track to be HD and pulled out early in the stage - the stage where Kiry was eliminated and where MOV pulled so long with Richie Porte chasing like a madman. Granted, Guti and Noval probably worked early on before the TV coverage, and leaving Kiry all alone behind the grupetto worked out well for Saxo/MOV.

That year they sent him to Vuelta, where he worked and finished. But this year, no GTs (I don't think they even short-listed him for TdF, but could be wrong on that.)

Anyway, while I hope Unzué would have some loyalty towards him, the lack of race days is worrying.

edit-
And it seems like Unzué is in the process of re-making his team, as more international, more "modern" cycling, get in some Anglo-types, Anglo sponsors, etc. Feels like that whole structure is in major transition, and less room for sentimentality, more business-driven. JMO

Got me thinking as to who out there are the most loyal team servants of all, since Lastras and Gutiérrez must be among the longest-tenured riders with a team out there. If Guti leaves Abarcá it takes away another long tenure, just as the loss of teams with seemingly stable core rosters such as Euskaltel have taken away a number of 'lifers' (Samuel Sánchez or Juanjo Oroz, for example).

Pablo Lastras - Banesto/Illes Balears/Caisse/Movistar since 1998
Nicki Sørensen - CSC/Saxo/Tinkoff since 2001
Thomas Voeckler - Bonjour/Brioches/Bouygues/Europcar since 2001 (stagiaire in 2000 too)
José Iván Gutiérrez - Banesto/Illes Balears/Caisse/Movistar since 2002
Tom Boonen - Quick Step/Omega Pharma since 2003
Benoît Vaugrenard - FDJ since 2003 (stagiaire in 2002 too)
Jérémy Roy - FDJ since mid-season 2003
Lloyd Mondory - Ag2r since 2004 (stagiaire in 2002 & 2003 too)
Giovanni Bernaudeau - Bouygues/Europcar since 2005 (stagiaire in 2004 too)
Damiano Cunego - Lampre since 2005 (since Saeco and Lampre merged, you can argue he's been with the same team since turning pro in 2002)
Imanol Erviti - Illes Balears/Caisse/Movistar since 2005
Yohann Gène - Bouygues/Europcar since 2005 (stagiaire in 2003 & 2004 too)
Christophe Riblon - Ag2r since 2005 (stagiaire in 2004 too)
Matteo Bono - Lampre stagiaire in 2005, pro since 2006
Vincent Jérôme - Bouygues stagiaire in 2005 pro with Bouygues/Europcar since 2006
Alexandre Pichot - Bouygues stagiaire in 2005, pro with Bouygues/Europcar since 2006

(asterisk for Alejandro Valverde - Illes Balears/Caisse/Movistar since 2005, but there's a ban in the middle of that)

And the signing of Salerno makes you think so?

They've made other shrewd signings.

And Salerno is without a doubt great domestique. No team can function without riders like him.

True, but the departures of Konig and Machado will still be hard to offset, so i don't know whether they'll do considerably better than this year, but we'll see.

As a fellow german i wouldn't mind though. :)

Konig was great during the Tour and got them most of their media exposure for the season because of it, but it should be said that he got zero wins and barely raced for most of the year.

On the signing: Salerno is a competent domestique, but they aren't short of those. It's leaders they are a bit light on.

They still have Jan Barta, for a team with a small budget - especially compared to the likes of Sky and Saxobank, Bora are doing well.

10731.35 km in 69 race days - barely racing?

You can add Francis Mourey - FdJ since 2004 , although he does more Cyclo-Cross than Road.

Very glad to hear George Bennett signed with LottoNL! He seems like a nice guy (he is hilarious on twitter) and I think he has talent but unfortunately he hasn't really been able to show it so far in his career. I was worried it wasn't gonna happen for him anymore. Good for him!
