Redbull is mentioned as the main sponsor for Alonso's 2011 cycling team, and Skoda - already official car suppliers for teams - as a subsponsor for $4mil. The entire budget is rumoured to lie in the $16-17mil range.

interesting that red bull are listed, especially when you consider it is banned in multiple countries over health concerns, the norwiegans where recently forced into lifting the ban due to some eu law, and the germans are now considering banning it..

Kessiakoff and Vansummeren to Garmin... According to "het belang van Limburg".

Bala, I didn't read through your whole post and ended up posting the same Contador and Red Bull news right after you did. That was dumb of me! Anyways, out of curiosity, was the Red Bull news also in Het Belang Van Limburg? I have no idea what that is, what language or if its a web site, a daily... Just wondering... : )

Haha, no worries. You even added a source, so maybe, unless every news agency copies one another, it could add some substance to the 'rumour'.

'Het Belang van Limburg' is a Belgian newspaper. They did not report the Red Bull story. Got that from a different website.

It's intriguing though, as dim said, that red bull has been banned in several countries. I was unaware of this. I wonder if Alonso's people conveniently forgot about that minor detail. On the other hand, if it's not a European wide ban, and if they are still allowed their sponsorship in the most important cycling countries, it shouldn't be too much of a prob.

Fuji aren't up for renewal are they? They weren't listed among the teams that are seeking renewal so that would indicate they already have a licence ready for 2010.

Of the five teams that are up for renewal I could see all of them being in danger except perhaps AG2R.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I read in the news story about Kessiakoff going to Garmin that Fuji-Servetto will dissolve at the end of the year so it seem like they won't be hogging one of the PT licenses after all.

I don't see cancerella leaving saxo, he seems very loyal. I remember reading last year that rabo offered a big paying contract to spartacus, but he wanted to stay at saxo.

Saxo Banks has had some financial difficulties so it might simply be that they can't afford to offer him a good enough contract. Who knows what kind of internal discussions they might have but there's a chance they have to make some though decisions.

Cancellara signed a 3 year contract extension that started this past January. He won't leave for another two years at the earliest

:eek:Omigosh, really!!! Wow! this could be a game breaker. The Essential element to make their picture complete. What a steal from Astana! I wonder what they were thinking when they let him get away:confused: Bruyneel just has a way of attracting all these Superstars, ya just gotta hand it to him!;) Looks like another Juggernaut is fully under construction. I'll tell you what, I sure can't wait 'til next year starts. Who would've ever thought the name Radio Shack could ever pack so much wallop in the sporting world??? Go figure!

Sarcasm meter overload...

Seriously though. I just realized that with the current idea of the Pro Tour one of the points was to make teams more secure and a little more long term so it would probably mean that nowadays riders are tied to longer contracts than they were before. So, with two brand new teams forming at the same time there could be a real shortage of riders that are contract free that they could even possibly recruit.

It was actually fortunate last year that Cervélo managed to get the talent that they did. Luckily they could get Sastre to start it off but then all their main riders of this year came from teams that were quitting after last year with Hushovd and Gerrans from Credit Agricole and Haussler from Gerolsteiner. Even alot of the rest of their squad are from Credit Agricole or lesser teams or neos and only a handful where riders from other PT teams.

I would expect both Radio Shack and Team Sky to have to fill out with young unknown riders or riders crossing from Track or MTB to fill their final rosters.

Kirchen's shiny new contract with Columbia to be announced next week.

Surprise to me as well. I thought Kirchen and Rogers would move away from Columbia as they won't get much support for gc with cav on the team.

What do you mean? I think Team Sky has probably been better at recruiting than Radioshack has been but do you think they will have a rooster of almost entirely Pro Tour riders? They also have the added advantage of attracting british cyclists so their chances are of course better than that of Radioshack.

I went back and looked at the wishlist that was leaked earlier this year and alot of those names are probably signed I would guess so it looks like they might do better than I thought though I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least a handful of unknowns in the rooster. Also some riders on the wishlist could also be said to be somewhat unknown.

Man alive! I don't ever remember waiting for Sept. 1st as hard as we all seem to be waiting for this one! It seems we're all anxiously biting our nails, sitting on the edges of our seats, barely breathing, anticipating, speculating(maybe even placing bets!) trying to figure out who's going where, and what's gonna happen next year. It's hilarious. :pwhew, I'm exhausted. I'm so glad La Vuelta is starting tomorrow morning, at least that might distract us 'til tuesday.:D:D

Let me try this again. This time with Rasmussen.

I just found this at http://www.biciciclismo.com/cas/site/noticias-ficha.asp?id=16535

My rough translation:

Michael Rasmussen could ride the rest of the season with the Tecos Trek team of the mexican university "Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara" [No idea why the university has this team]. Rasmussen is married witha Mexican and could nationalize himself. The mexican daily Ocho Columnas reports he may ride the Vuelta de Puebla with the team.

Juan Manuel Navarro, the Tecos Trek president says he has received a fax from the Mexican Cycling Federation authorizing him to include Rasmussen in his team.

Rasmussen will arrive today from Italy and will interview with Bernardo de la Garza, the president of CONADE (Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte) [National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport].

De la Garza hopes to convince rasmussen to take Mexican citizenship and compete in the Vuelta de Chihuahua.

According to A Danish cycling webpage this has been confirmed:
