Lotto doesn't have much money compared to the top teams. Garmin can offer a much higher salary.

Hammerhed said:But what about Cadel? Where is he going to go? Surely Silence Lotto has absolutely nothing to offer him but money, and I think he will want at least one more legitimate chance to win the Tour. So who need a real GC guy, and who wants one? Garmin must want one (more) since they were courting Albertico, and they will have some bucks if Millar and Wiggins leave. Columbia has a few aspiring GC guys with Martin and Rogers, but do they want a sprint and a (real) GC team? Saxo could use Cadel for one or two years while Andy matures a bit more. Katusha would be good as would Liquigas. I know this: Cadel needs to bail quickly, before he gets too old. This year, finally, he has the form, but still has no team.
Am I too far off topic, here? I'll stop. Sorry.

craig1985 said:With Andre Greipel winning three stages in the Tour of Austria and being the second most prolific sprinter outside of Mark Cavendish and is still not good enough for Columbia's Tour team. I really think it is time that he looked for a new team and have their team build their sprint train around him. Greipel has 13 wins this year which is two less then Cav's 15 wins for the year to date (for all intents and purposes, I'm not counting the Columbia TTT win at the Giro as a win for Cav, otherwise it would be 16 wins).
I would say Team SKY would be a perfect match for him.

Bala Verde said:And Columbia signed another talented youngster, Leigh Howard, a 19 year old Australian coming from the track. He won stages in the Tour of Japan and one in Thüringen-Rundfahrt. He is also aiming to compete in London 2012.

Christophe Moreau is the newest recruit
Buninyong Bunny said:From an aussie Point of View this seems a slightly strange move to me. Given that Howard doesn't even dominate races domestically, I can't fathom what use he would be to a team like Columbia for at least 2-3 seasons... so I think Howard is just a silly waste of money.

Of course if cycling has some loan system that I am unaware about that would see Howard ride for a second tire team, then this move makes more sense, but even riders like Walker and Sulzburger who dominate locally haven't had much effect once they have been picked up overseas, so I think Howard is just a silly waste of money.
