If van Summeren leaves then S/L management should be shot.

Lotto doesn't have much money compared to the top teams. Garmin can offer a much higher salary.

But what about Cadel? Where is he going to go? Surely Silence Lotto has absolutely nothing to offer him but money, and I think he will want at least one more legitimate chance to win the Tour. So who need a real GC guy, and who wants one? Garmin must want one (more) since they were courting Albertico, and they will have some bucks if Millar and Wiggins leave. Columbia has a few aspiring GC guys with Martin and Rogers, but do they want a sprint and a (real) GC team? Saxo could use Cadel for one or two years while Andy matures a bit more. Katusha would be good as would Liquigas. I know this: Cadel needs to bail quickly, before he gets too old. This year, finally, he has the form, but still has no team.
Am I too far off topic, here? I'll stop. Sorry.

ehhh he has the form?
Evans attacks the on stage 7, doesn't get more then a metre.
Contador attacks, flys away.
Evans is good, but i don't think his team mattered, no way he would be able to beat Contador in the mountains (don't be fooled by the dauphne) especially as evans and conta are basically on par in the ITT. but not in the mounatins.

as for teams wanting him. meehhh, a team has to pay for him this season. I assume S-L would want big bucks for thier leader... I don't see any of the strong teams wanting him... Saxo, rabo, Astana, Livestrong(?), Caisse, Liquigas wouldn't want him or need him (have thier own leaders) Garmin aren't taht much worse of with VdV, and i just don't see them paying big bucks for an ageing Evans. Columbia are a fantastic team, they have lots of promising youngsters, they don't need him. None of teh other teams (I assume) are gonna pay big bucks for him, and aren't any stronger.. so i'm pretty convinced he will be at S-L come july 2010. However maybe S-L will think before they make thier transfers this season. ;)

With Andre Greipel winning three stages in the Tour of Austria and being the second most prolific sprinter outside of Mark Cavendish and is still not good enough for Columbia's Tour team. I really think it is time that he looked for a new team and have their team build their sprint train around him. Greipel has 13 wins this year which is two less then Cav's 15 wins for the year to date (for all intents and purposes, I'm not counting the Columbia TTT win at the Giro as a win for Cav, otherwise it would be 16 wins).

I would say Team SKY would be a perfect match for him.

I don't think he would go to team sky. they wont be in tour next year (most likely) I'm thinking he might join his home team milram.
I wouldn't mind if he came rabobank btw ;)

would be a good solid signing, but by the same token i dont think wins can be compared.. major tour wins and classic wins are like away wins.. they count double..

Where do people think Brice Feillu will go after his stage win the other day?

the press room for a bit, then a massage, then some dinner, maybe a small celebratory beer..

Greipel needs experience. He's never done it consistently at top level races. ever. And I don't just mean Grand Tours.

Give him time. Meanwhile he'll be the designated sprinter at the Vuelta, ENECO, Paris-Nice, etc. That suits his development.

Just give him time. Don't expect him to lead a team just yet. That kind of a jump at this point in his development can ruin him.

And Columbia signed another talented youngster, Leigh Howard, a 19 year old Australian coming from the track. He won stages in the Tour of Japan and one in Thüringen-Rundfahrt. He is also aiming to compete in London 2012.

Caisse d'Epargne continues to sign riders whose names wouldn't be in any way amiss in "The Clinic".

Christophe Moreau is the newest recruit

Michael Rasmussen contacted Ivano Fanini of Amore & Vita to ask for a spot on the team, just like the rest of the squad, which is made up of former dopers who came clean.

Fanini's response, being just about the most staunch fighter of doping around, is that chicken has a spot on the team as long as he does the same as everyone else on the squad: reveals all he knows about his past and organized doping and takes his suspension if one is forthcoming.

So we can have chicken riding for Fanini soon. Whoever would've guessed

From an aussie Point of View this seems a slightly strange move to me. Given that Howard doesn't even dominate races domestically, I can't fathom what use he would be to a team like Columbia for at least 2-3 seasons.

Of course if cycling has some loan system that I am unaware about that would see Howard ride for a second tire team, then this move makes more sense, but even riders like Walker and Sulzburger who dominate locally haven't had much effect once they have been picked up overseas, so I think Howard is just a silly waste of money.

Suddenly makes sense now since Moreau has been the best future Caisse rider in the last two stages. Contador going to Caisse and they want to strengthen their team for next years Tour.

He won a senior world championship on the track this year as well as having won a heap of important races internationally. So he can't win a Tatt's cup or something but he's definitely got enough talent to not be a silly waste of money...

COlumbia need to recruit young talent, so that in a few years they can still dominate as they do now. not rocket science people.

They are already young...the question is who is not riding for them next season because they have been very very active in signing young riders for next year...they can't keep them all can they?

Sorry I perhaps didn't make myself clear, he might not be a waste of money in the long term (7-9 years), but for the next 3-4 years he will be nigh on useless for Columbia, so I don't understand where they are going, useless they are planning 10 years into the future already.

On second thought, this is better posted here:

Today's the day Lampre were scheduled to announce signing Di Luca to a 2 year 1.5million/season contract.

Not going to happen anymore, no doubt

Anybody else think that Allan Davis will leave Quick Step? He was very angry when he got dropped, and despite the spin, it was nationality that played a big part in it. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to RadioShack.

Not really nationality. Quickstep's sponsor contract establishes that 3 million euros depended on Boonen riding the Tour.

Since Davis' form wasn't great (he wasn't preparing for the Tour and didn't expect to ride it), he was the one pulled.

Without the bonus, yes, Davis would be there instead of Boonen.

Scott Sunderland was on eurosport earlier on and he stated that 50% of the riders signed so far are british alot of them from either the academy or lower level teams. Also mentioned that alot of people will be surprised with some names that have signed and there is at least 1 big name currently signed.

No names can be released until 1st September, but there appears to have been alot of talk about Boassen Hagen, Lovkvist and Pauwels. However I would not quite count any of them as "Big" names just yet. Any speculation as to the possible big name?

Nibali, Cunego, Ballan?
