while tygart clearly deserves all honor, i hope the general public won't forget to honor floyd, who made this all possible and had the balls to blow the whistle, and kimmage, who has been made to suffer, indeed, for doing his job.
OMG, I hope this is a sarcastic joke? you don't remember that Floyd denyed it, lied about it, took 2 million from unsuspecting rubes, and then after getting caught, squeeled like a pig/little girl and never accepted personal responsibility for his own decisions and actions. if anybody idolizes that POS, they need their head examined.
and bottom line to me is no government agency, especially one that is tax funded, should ever waste any money on pro sports, period. way too many bigger issues in life that 9 million $ would help, instead of this debacle.
Travis Tygart is not a sportsman so he could not possibly get sportsman of the year. that is like giving a 'World's Greatest Mom' mug to your boss, kinda disrespectful
this is what Landis thinks about cycling and cycling fans

it's just a personal thing i guess. i simply like floyd, alot in fact. i like his particular charisma, his sensibility. his story moves me. as i said, it's a personal thing. i have a crush on this guy. i couldn't name you any former or current cyclist that i like better than floyd, characterwise.

'Elite' endurance runner Jon Rankin doesn't believe USADA should play a role in cleaning up sports. He contends that only athletes - not anti-doping agencies - can do so. If only Lance's fellow athletes had called him on his doping cycling wouldn't be in its current mess. Apparantly this fellow has never heard of Christophe Bassons or Filippo Simeoni.

Here's a link to Rankin's brilliant insights:

Where does he say they don't have a role?

He expresses some views that I don't agree with, but others that are OK. However, in reading the article I can't see where he says USADA should not have a role.

"I question whether the function they serve is a reflection of their understanding of what it is they're trying to fix? Even though these organizations were created to help athletes, it seems as though they're doing more harm than good. Who are the athletes supposed to turn to if the system created to protect them is wreaking havoc on their livelihood? I believe the real (and possibly only) solution lies more with the athletes themselves than with these external agencies that were created to help them."

OK, he does say "possibly only" thereby leaving himself a bit of wiggle room. But the overall tone of the piece is very anti-USADA and critical of its actions in taking down Armstong.

That's precisely why the DOJ and/or the USPS should join Landis' qui tam action. Wrest back some of Armstrong's ill gotten millions. From what I hear, the US Postal Service could really use that money right about now.

Anyone losing sight of how much taxable income is lost to the black market sales of these drugs plus the possibility of bogus/tainted products? The point is beyond sports on product protection for controlled substances. Screw LA; go after some serious fines on his team's owner at that time.
